Title: R.I.P. Anne Nightingale

A sad loss. Radio 1's first female presenter. Used to watch her a lot on TOGWT. :(

Would she have been on before I left for Oz in 1974? The name rings a bell

She would have been on Radio 1 then and on Whistle Test.

I used to like her Sunday evening broadcast on Radio 1 in the late seventies

I find it interesting how Whistle Test got its name.

When the music moguls got the first pressing of a record they would play it to people they called the old greys – doormen in grey suits. Any song the doormen could remember and whistle, having heard it just once or twice, had passed the old grey whistle test.

RIP Anne

Bob

I'd heard the same story except the 'old greys' were cleaners at the Beeb who used to wear grey tabards

I'd also heard it was old grey haired men, going about their daily walk to work
