:hellosign:
My good lady posed an interesting question this evening. Does Cadbury chocolate taste the same in Australia ?
I await any replies :thankyousign:

Hmm, that's a tricky one.
I am
VERY familiar with the UK Dairy Milk. I know it's a burden, but I'm prepared to take one for the 'team', if you can send me a PM with the details of the return ticket to Sydney I'll report back in a couple of weeks.
Only too happy to help.
No need to. Living in Australia, and eating a lot of the stuff, and also consuming a lot of it during my 5 weeks in England earlier this year, the answer is.....
.... Yes.
Sorry I scuppered your Sydney trip, Michael! ;)
Whatever you do, DO NOT IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCES try the American version. Nasty stuff made by Hersheys.
John P
Yes, on my first (and only) visit to America, I insisted on trying a Hershey bar, as they were, well, an American legend (to me, anyway).
I was rather unimpressed.
Cadburys rules ok
A couple of positives about Cadbury. 360g Dairy Milk for $6 at Coles and Woolies.
Cadbury Marble, although a little sweeter than I like, is back.
I think the Aldi Milk and the Aldi Dark are better than Cadbury and are only $3.99 a block.
Coles has an own brand Milk, a Dark and a White for $2.30 a block which are worth trying (I like the Milk and the Dark).
Darrell Lea Rocky Road is excellent, so I'm told by SWMBO, and great value when it is sometimes 1/2 price at Coles ($2.75)
Prices in AU$ which is currently trading at 52.6p. Not all products are available at all stores. YMMV. Conditions apply.
Mark
PS. I forgot to add that when I toured the Cadbury factory in Claremont, Tasmania many years ago, I was looking for the process stage where the milk was added. The slogan being "A glass and a half of full cream milk in every block" only to be reminded by the guide that the milk was added at the dry mixing stage we had passed earlier in the tour. Yep, powdered milk.
Ah, I grew up with Cadburys. I stick with tradition.
Cadburys in Australia was always made at a big plant at Claremont, just north of Hobart. However they transferred the operation to Victoria, which I thought was a shame.
However, they're back in Tasmania now, I'm pleased to report.
In New Zealand, the factory is in Dunedin. I've been around that one too. Yummy!

Can tell you are not a local of SEQ. It is called Rocklea Road, named after a Brisbane suburb of Rocklea. Also a play on the family name of Lea.
For Aussies; to compare buy some import from UK from various online sellers. My usual source for Terry's Dark Chocolate Oranges for my POM wife.
a permitted ingredient to American Chocolate is...
Mouse and rat poo...
because their regulation is old it was before they could 100% be kept out of the factories.. so there is a max limit.
UK and Europe regulations and just say no.

Agreed!!
There is always an exception though... My local supermarket has a few bays set aside for "International Foods", and a whole bay is dedicated to British stuff because there are a lot of us Brits living in this part of Florida, and they have the REAL stuff! :D
Also chockie digestives, and Terry's chocolate oranges too. Hmmm!
Ross.
:hellosign: :thankyousign:
Many many thanks for the informative & interesting replies no question that Cadburys is a favourite
Again :thankyousign:

Just to go off on a tangerine for a mo - I worked for 35 years in the flexible packaging industry which was mainly printed/coloured aluminium foil and we sold to Cadbury Bournville, Cadbury Australia and Cadbury New Zealand so I've had dealings with them all. We also sold tonnes of foil to Hershey Chocolates and I can, indeed, confirm their chocolate to be the worst I've ever tasted. If you doubt me, Tesco do sell their Peanut Butter Cups so try them
Worse, they even made 'em once with grapefruit or raspberry jello

Yes! Both! And HP Sauce, Cadbury's Flake, Rolo's, Hobnobs, PG Tips, Tetley's. All the treats from home!
American's really get wide eyed when you offer them "spotted dick" ;)
Ross.

Yes, they're rather naive like that ;)
I'm convinced CDM isn't as good since they were taken over by Kraft. If I want milk chocolate (which isn't often these days) I prefer Yorkie bars. Or Lindt. Never tried Hershey and I don't think I want to.
Cheers,
Chris
I hate Lindt. It gets everywhere, especially in my navel ::)
How about tins of mushy peas? I can get those here. Heinz English baked beans anorl.
Being based in Malaysia for ten years now, I struggle to get decent chocolate, if it's stock mars bars twix aussie Cadbury, was very disappointed on my visit to UK last year, my all time favourite Topic discontinued, not a happy bunny
Never used to like Topic ;)
A reminder to all ex-pats to get your orders in for Christmas puddings, mince pies, crackers etc.
Since Marks & Spencers pulled out of France (due to brexit) my only source of supply in Paris is the Comptoir Irlandais (Irish shop).
I waited too late last year and they had sold out of all Christmas goodies :(

As a matter of interest Steph buys 24 pack of Yorkie Bars (for me) from Amazon

With a username like that you would wouldn't you?

There seems to be outrage as Nestlé have ceased manufacture of 'Caramac' and 'Animal' bars.
Tough.
It's like everything - 'use it or lose it'
High unlikely these days for any manufacturer to keep making a product for a small minority

Yet Rowntrees fruit gums and other chewy type sweets are now 'Vegan' meaning the texture and chew has changed...
They changed a few times over the years as a kid I remember them being harder and shiny (when they had the bobble pattern on top) a change for a small minority of their customers you would think more than likely driven internally by someone of that persuasion...
They never seem to consider doing two versions and we all have to adhere to the vocal minority for a lot of this stuff now...

Bealman - really? Genuine UK Heinz BB available in the land downunder? The tins we can get here in Japan are made in Oz.... Just the Cadburys Dairy Milk we get from your neck of the woods its not quite the same as the genuine UK product...

Tastes different - we get Australian manufactured Cadbury's here in Japan and it does not taste quite the same as the UK article ( nor does that from another factory which I think is in Malaysia ). Consensus is that this is due to (i) to the milk and (ii) a higher melting point mixture making it suitable for sale across the APAC region.
What we can get is the ASDA Dairy Milk (Walmart owns a share of a supermarket chain here as it does of ASDA and there is some supply chain sharing ). The ASDA product ( which is actually made in Germany is vey very close in taste and consistency to genuine UK made Cadbury's...
Anyway thats my opinion and I am sticking to it. Rule 1 may even apply :-)

Hershey's tastes like metal to me - awful stuff - does it even have any Cacao in it?
I bought some After 8 mints from my local supermarket a couple of days ago.
