Title: Kato couplings
Post by: Hessle Blade on July 23, 2023, 12:28:55 PM
Does anyone know whether Kato models use NEM sockets?  Many of their locos at 1:150 could be used on my British layout as I would like to try one as an experiment and experience etc.  If the couplings can't be changed, there's no point in buying one.

Thanks in advance.

They don't use NEM, no. That's not the same as 'can't be changed' though. Which locos are you looking at?

I'm always tickled by the idea that a scale discrepancy is a barrier to mixing stock from entirely different continents!

@Hessle Blade   Changing couplings from which type to which alternative?

The NEM pocket is very much a European thing, not found on US models nor on Japanese models (other than those made for the European market).

If the alternative coupling design you wish to fit is available with a T-shank for the older style sprung pocket it shouldn't be a problem.
