Title: Next page button
Post by: Rob H on June 10, 2012, 01:41:53 PM
In posts where there are more than one page would it be possible to have a "next page" button ?. On here we have next and previous buttons but this refers to posts and not pages.
Currently we have the page numbers displayed but I suspect I am not alone in using the forum on my iPhone or iPad and it's really fiddly because the numbers are so small.
Just a thought !!

Have you tried the arrow keys on the keyboard on your phone?
I have just asked this question and the arrow keys are working for me Rob

cheers John.

Don't need new buttons, perhaps make what's there already bigger maybe?
More buttons just clogs up the screen!  :smiley-laughing:

Hi John,
I'd read your post regarding pics which prompted my post - unfortunately the iPhone & iPad don't have forward and previous buttons !

Probably not, though I suppose that depends on the size of your screen...  ;)

Hi Rob,

I just tried doing it on my HTC Desire HD and I agree the buttons are tricky to hit, it took me three attempts to hit the play button.

I did find it easier when I enlarged the picture to fit the screen, I managed to hit the play button first time then

I apologise for mentioning the arrow keys - brain dead moment

cheers John.

To stop the pages getting clogged up perhaps changing the page up and page down buttons, which I bet are hardly used, would solve the problem,

I use the forum on my iphone a lot myself.  Have you tried double-tapping the screen on the area where the buttons are?  It makes the screen zoom right in on the numbers.

Yeahbut, the number of 'doh' moments as I remember that 'next' doesn't take you to the next page, makes the original suggestion worth while!

Illori has now made some changes, so that there is now a button to click on if there are multiple pages in a thread.

Neither can I and i have checked on other topics where there are pages of posts.

I think the next page button is a good idea

Really?  ???

Just go to a post with multiple pages, and you'll see the << 1 2 3 4 >> buttons.

In "Show unread posts since last visit" there is _no_ button:

Within a multipage topic there are two new buttons, small, but they are there (at least on a Mac with Safari):

Many thanks MacRat.

If members wish to have bigger buttons, or the actual words previous/next, then let me know.

I thought they'd always been there. Without wishing to drag this topic out I personally would like to see "proper buttons" - next and previous please,

Rob

When using a device like a PC, notebook or netbook, all of which have a mouse; I didn't and don't have a problem. I don't know about a 'phone but using a tablet is near impossible to navigate. I find it's not only the page numbers (or the new next page) but selecting read the posts since my last visit is difficult (to close to the option below).

I would like to see a bit more space around all of the buttons because I refuse to put my finger into the pencil sharpener.

it sounds like ideally a mobile theme should be installed and used for those on mobile devices. we cant tweak things for every mobile user that has issues here and there on this theme. for now i would suggest http://smf-media.com/smf4mobile/ (http://smf-media.com/smf4mobile/) as a mobile theme. most likely many functions of this forum [mods] would not work with that theme but i may be able to look into tweaking things to add a few of the mods to work with it but up to tank at this point.

I think Illori is right that we would need a mobile theme to make phone users happy. I don't think we can optimize the screen of the main website for use on a phone.  All i do on my phone is zoom before i select. But i think a mobile app is the way to go for us to use on phones.

I've mentioned tapatalk previously, but you do have to pay for it. (About £2 for a user, don't know if websites have to pay.)
Works well on the cycling forum that I also inhabit via this android phone.
