Christmas 1971:-

I was just 18 then, and it's probably the first time this list had been issued since decimalisation :o :smiley-laughing:
Thanks for posting
Aye, note the price of the 4-wheel coaches! :P
I was just 7. However, I'm thinking about placing an order, I should get a decent set-up for £20
:smiley-laughing:
Looking at the fact there are only two locos, and can motor ones at that, it's probably the earliest price list?
It would be interesting to see some of these models, especially next to a new version of the mdoel to see the changes in molds and everything :o especially since the prices seem to be so low back than. (I wasnt around than, for quite some time haha)

Shouldn't the 3rd class ones be cheaper than the 2nd class

That depends what bit you look at. The generic coaches are actually quite good in places. Their bogies are probably the best Farish ever did until the new Stanier and Mark 1 stock, nice and close to the solebars !

Id say the locos and the carrriages since the carriages sound good and the locos as there is only two available haha, I would like to see the 4 wheeled coaches as they may work for a diorama I would like to do :D
You can get the coaches on flea-bay for an arm and a leg, or get the Shredded Wheat ones cheap and adapt them. They're the same apart from the couplings, I think.
I was - 4 months old then! :smiley-laughing:
I've got two of the Holden tank currently in the paint shop after an overhaul and repair session.
I'll have to post some pics once they're done.

I was 10 and annoyed that the airfix models I use to buy for 2/11 were suddenly 15p no penny sweet on way home from toy shop, pure profiteering, although with a 6d (which was still legal) you got 6 penny sweets and only 5 from 2 1/2 new pence.
I'm sure the more mature members wont have to get their calculators out to understand this post. :smiley-laughing:
Decimalisation - the biggest con ever pulled on a gullible public!
I do remember being a little confused shortly after decimalisation when I bought 10p worth of sweets and the shop-keeper wouldn't give me the 2p change I was expecting from the shilling I'd just handed over.
That price list dates from around the time I started getting interested in model railways: I used to get half-a-crown a week pocket money then, so a Farish 4-wheeler would take three weeks saving-up ... (how many of you pre-decimal members continued to work out prices in 'proper money' long after decimilsation just to see how much things 'really cost' ?? :)
We still had £1 notes then too :) (withdrawn 1984).

I still remember my first paypacket in 1970 was £7 3s6d - on a different note any one remember the double florin (4 bob bit) still have one along with a Churchill Crown in our old coin collection.
Farthings, halfpennys, threepenny bits, tanners, shillings, florins, half crowns, guineas - all but a memory except threepenny bits and that's only rhyming slang nowadays :smiley-laughing:
Many's the time I overheard old ladies saying they weren't going to bother with this new money stuff because it won't catch on ::) ;D
Two stories:
On the day the 'New Decimal Money' came out I remember coming out of a shop with my Nan and her saying 'Look how small and narrow these new half-p coins are - they can slip between your fingers! (and she was right - they were absolutely miniscule compared to the old coins!)
Also from my Nanny Rose ...
"Rule Brittania, Two Tanners make a Bob, Three make Two and Six and three Three Bob: :)

I can fill the gap, I was 19 and as pure as the driven slush, a state I have kept intact to this very day  :smiley-laughing: :smiley-laughing:
I can tell you one thing tho' - nostalgia ain't as good as it was in the old days :smiley-laughing:
