Title: Dell Latitude 5590 laptop
Post by: Newportnobby on March 01, 2023, 06:41:30 PM
Following the unlamented passing away of my Toshiba laptop I now have a Dell which, in comparison, is lightning quick.
Being a reconditioned business one it has no manual and there certain things on the keyboard I am struggling with.
1. There is nothing to tell me if the number lock is on for the right hand keypad (the Toshiba had a light)
2. The 'Home' and 'End' keys are within the same keypad. Luckily the 'Page Up/Down' keys take me where I want to be very quickly.
Does anyone know of ways round these, please?

To show alerts visually in Windows 10 when using Caps Lock or Num Lock:
Select the Windows icon on the Taskbar.
Select Settings (Gear icon).
Select Ease of Access.
Select Keyboard from the left pane.
Navigate to Use Toggle Keys.
Set the Play a sound whenever you press Caps Lock, Num Lock, or Scroll Lock option to On.

Thanks for that, but having checked the settings it seems I should be getting some sound but I'm not :dunce:

Edit:- On turning on the 'Narrator' who will tell me when various locks are on, I find it would drive me up the wall so may have to just lump it. As soon as I exit 'Narrator' it turns it all off.

There were, and presumably still are, programs that once installed, indicate the CAPS LOCK, SCROLL LOCK and NUM LOCK status on the taskbar.

Apologies, maybe a Dell portal problem.

Try this https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-uk/Products?app=manuals (https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-uk/Products?app=manuals)

The website page may even identify your Dell system automatically for you  :)

I have a Dell laptop and you can set the brightness of the key illumination. Try turning it up and see if the caps lock lights up. You use one of the function keys to adjust. I can't remember which one and I'm not by the laptop.

Caps Lock does light up when set. Number lock just shows a padlock with a number '9' on it.
I can't help feeling Steve Pemberton/Reese Shearsmith/Mark Gatiss have had a hand in this :hmmm:
