Depending on your age these two gents from the sport commentating would have featured a lot on your tellies and, sadly, both have passed away this week. Dickie Davies was ITV's 'World of Sport' and John Motson (aka Motty - renowned for his sheepskin coats) was one of the best football commentators on the Beeb.
A sad week :(
Liked dickie a lot. But motty for me who remembers his commentary
1972 fa cup replay Hereford Beating Newcastle
1990 Gascoigne booked against West Germany after tackling berthold and the tears
Motty was at my local game just the other week supporting Stevenage but recalling the famous Coventry FA cup tie
I propped up the bar with Dickie Davis between Manchester Piccadilly and London Euston one day back in the early 1980s. My enduring memory of the trip was how much shorter he was than he ever appeared on TV. We talked all the way and I drank comparatively little. As memorable an event as shaking Freddie Trueman's hand.
I remember those two in the days before I caught the big silver bird to Australia! Sad news.
