I keep disappearing down internet rabbit holes when I try to get an answer to this question - does anyone know of an English-language live internet radio stream with commentary of World Cup matches?
Fox have the broadcast rights here in the USA and there is no way on earth I am going to listen to that collection of muppets broadcasting commentary from a studio in Los Angeles and trying to pretend that they're at the game. None of them know what they're looking at anyway
Telemundo has Spanish-language coverage which is a reasonable alternative, but we need to keep the "mute" button handy for the interminable "goooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllll" nonsense.
Ideally we'd watch the telly on mute with commentary and stadium noise coming from a live radio stream, but I can't find any reliable information on who's carrying the games on radio streaming.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
Hi Steve,
This might not be of any help at all but I find it difficult getting internet commentary on English league games from radio stations here in the UK, either because they don't/won't do it or you need to pay some sort of subscription but the radio station Talksport and Talksport 2 is free on the internet and football matches are broadcast. I Googled it and it seems you can get it in the US. Whether you need to pay, not sure, but I listen to them in the van and it's a good station.
They normally broadcast more live football than Radio 5 live so will definitely be covering the World Cup I presume.
I really don't know how it all works but hope that helps and that it isn't another goose chase down a rabbit hole :).
Cheers, weave :beers:

Thanks, Weave. I've been meaning to check out Talksport anyway. I'll report on the snipe hunt when I've finished this fool's errand. :beers:
Hi Steve,
You could you try using a vpn such as Nordvpn - thay can connect to BBC iPlayer and probably BBC Sounds and ITV hub as well. Lamentably, I haven't been abroad for a few years, (I've barely left bloody Norfolk) so I'm a little out of touch with these things. Might be a bit of a cat and mouse game as well - official broadcasters will be aggressively protecting their very considerable investments. Having said that, patchy North Korean long wave coverage would be preferable to anything Fox might serve up.
If you restrict yourselves to only watching England games, however, you might not have to endure that many episodes of interminable "goooooooooaaaaaaallllllllllllllllllllll" commentaries :*( (I say that, but in reality, I just have a sneaking feeling this time .... again ....)
Good luck,
Mark
If you download the Talksport app you will be able to listen to matches they cover.

I'll see about that, thanks. They have a 30-day free trial period (no doubt that offer will be suspended during the World Cup) so I'll know if I can get to the BBC/ITV feeds ahead of time.

Thanks, Chris. I just downloaded Talksport and it's working just fine!
That's great Steve.
They are sending a team of reporter/pundits over to Qatar so they will at least cover all England games and no doubt many more.

Hi Steve, just a quick word of warning regarding watching on one service and listening to commentary on another, they are nearly always out of sync which tends to spoil things a bit, I have this problem when i try to listen to my team's local radio stations commentary whilst watching on tv, much better to try and find a complete service, I am pretty sure the Beeb and ITV will be providing this online.

Have had that with the cricket when I would prefer to listen to TMS - if you can pause the sound/picture you can eventually get close to sync... or you listen to the commentary and it alerts you to something exciting happening in 45 seconds... :D
Well, TalkSport for live commentary was a bust as far as Premier League coverage is concerned, and I assume the WC also. They don't have rights in the USA, I suppose I should have expected that.
Looks like it's the VPN route, or a crash course in Spanish for "the ref's an idiot", "that was a stonewall pen" and "why is VAR taking so long?".
Who's covering it in the UK? If it's free to air on BBC then smartdnsproxy.com and BBC Radio 5 live or iPlayer.
Yep, that's the plan!
