Personally I think Sturgeon suffers from Napoleon Complex and needs to be in the headlines like I need oxygen. I know passenger numbers were hit by covid and recent years have been beset by industrial actions, but is it really underperforming enough to justify nationalisation?!

Maybe do some research before posting political statements from the other end of the country, you are just showing yo don't know what you are talking about.
The sleeper contract has hit a review date as outlined in the contract.
The subsidy had previously been increased to keep serco running the franchise. Serco asked for an even larger sum of money and it has been rejected and as part of that contract Serco can walk away if they don't like it.

I made no political statement - if you refer to my comment on Ms Sturgeon, that's not a comment on her politicals but rather a comment on her personality and ego. I must confess that I know almost nothing of her politics.
Regarding research, I read Oliver Gill's piece yesterday and knowing not much more than that, I came here to discuss the topic further. You can't condemn me for being unknowledgeable on a topic in reply to me seeking to further my knowledge on said topic. Well, you can and indeed have done, but not without sounding silly and ranty.
Meanwhile I thank you for contributing to the discussion and so patronisingly advancing my knowledge on the topic at hand.
Everyone take a deep breath please!
It's a Franchise, it is still ultimately owned by the government, it just means that a government department in Scotland will run it either on a management contract or through some other vehicle to keep the employees at arms length from being public service employees.
The only private railway companies are the freight companies (DRS is questionable) and the open market operators, everyone else is a franchise or management contract.

You did, you called her "Sturgeon" instead of Nicola Sturgeon
then "suffers from Napoleon Complex and needs to be in the headlines like I need oxygen", your opinion although you said "I know almost nothing of her politics"
"that's not a comment on her politicals but rather a comment on her personality and ego"
"You can't condemn me for being unknowledgeable on a topic in reply to me seeking to further my knowledge on said topic. Well, you can and indeed have done, but not without sounding silly and ranty."
Really ? That's a whole load of offensive opinions to me and shouldn't be on a Model Railway forum in my opinion.
That's all folks
