Weather permitting, you would get some great photographs from those cable cars  :camera:

Uh - no way, José.
They'd have to dig me out of the cable car, if you know what I mean :-[

The cable car to the Heights of Abraham at Matlock Bath is bad enough - especially when the local news shows the emergency rescue team at work!

Jeeeeezz!

This reminds me of the fight scene Richard Burton has with the bad guys in the film 'where Eagles Dare'.

Well if you lot are not keen on the cable car views.

I cannot think you would like to do this job.

I was just thinking that myself. :smiley-laughing: Although I don't think he would have jumped from one car to another on any of those cable cars.

Can anyone identify the steam loco, to the left of the bloke in the red shirt?

The two cable cars that I have gritted my teeth on when skiing are both in Switzerland. Wengen to Männlichen is notable because its top station projects over a cliff face, so you have a massive drop below you as you embark/disembark From Männlichen to Wengen by cable car (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zV57BNeWnRk#).

However, Samnaun to Alp Trida lures you into a false sense of security as you complete the crossing of the valley on the ascent..... About 30 seconds in to this video.... Returning with Cable Car No.5 - Samnaun Twinliner from Ischgl - AT to Samnaun - CH 20.08.2008 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSI5fJdp1vk#)

None the less, it is reassuring to be hanging from incredibly strong steel ropes. The same cannot be said for this guy: Speed-Riding Down The Eiger (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLKVx60I5BM#) Now wash your hands before doing any modelling!  :smiley-laughing:

I've seen several cable cars on alpine model railways, but I have yet to see one that operates realistically. If we can get turntables to turn gently, and locomotives to crawl, surely a cable car could be modeled without 'fatal' crashes at the stations?  ;)

I've been on the one up the Schilthorn in Switzerland and was bricking it. Their cars hold about 80 people/sardines. It travels up to the Piz Gloria which is the revolving restaurant they used in one of the James Bond films. Glad it didn't revolve at 78 while I was eating :-X

The cable cars would not be a problem for me Sandvika but the guys skiing gave me such a thrill.  I would not have the nerve to attempt anything like that but it does look brilliant fun.

cheers John.

I bet the skier's underwear were in need of laundering after the snow suddenly disappeared halfway down.

If it was me, my underwear, overwear, boots and skis would have to thrown away instantly! :smiley-laughing:
