But our lovely Jellycat started to feel ill on Saturday, today we get a call from the vet saying its renal failure.. I take her in, in 1 1/2 hrs to say goodbye. I made her he favourite chicken.. that she managed to eat a little of
My wife and I are distraught. We brought her here from the UK, she's a Welsh RSPCA rescue cat from Newport originally and had had a terrible first year with whoever owned her. But she's been loving and happy and just wonderful with us

I'm very sorry to hear this Graham. We miss our little feline friends so much when they leave us.

That sucks Graham. We are lucky to have them, and they are lucky to have us to be able to care for them and make decisions like this. It's the right thing to do, but it's the most painful harrowing thing we ever have to do as pet owners.
Give Jellycat a hug from us and Penfold and Chaos.

So sorry to hear this - it's like losing a best friend. Several stiff drinks and 1/2 a tin of Whiskas may help!
We have a small cemetery at the bottom of the garden, and a small service can be consoling.
As others have said, losing a pet is tantamount to losing a family member.
We were at a funeral last weekend and our friend had requested that his ashes be combined with those of his two beloved cats (who had predeceased him) to be buried with him in the memorial garden. The priest had to tell us that this is not permitted and if we had an issue he told us where and how to contact the local bishop! I for one thought it was a wonderful idea.
RIP Jellycat, your humans gave you a great name by the way!

Such sad news Graham. It is painful to lose a friend. Over the years we have lost a few members of our family and it never gets easier, but just remember the good times. The time will come when you can think of Jellycat and smile.
Sorry to hear the sad news. It sounds like she was very well loved, despite her bad start to life. All the best to you and your wife.
I'll add my condolences too. It's always distressing when you have to say goodbye to a beloved pet. Non-pet owners say, "It's only a cat", but they are so much more than that. Our old cat is very frail, but isn't ready to go yet. We will be distraught when she does.
I'm sure they have animal rescue charities in Canada. From our experience, the best way to get over the loss is to rescue another one who needs a good home. That way everybody wins.

So, so sorry to see this :(. I lost my cat to hepatitis last year and the heartache is still so strong I avoid looking at pics of him even now.
So sorry to read this. It must be getting on for twenty years since our Tibbs had to be put down. That's longer than he was with us for. I still miss him, but now I smile when I think of him. I haven't met a cat since that I liked half as much so he hasn't been replaced. The fact that he chose us made him even more special.
We're very sorry to hear your loss and send our sympathy and support. As others have said, the wonderfully-named Jellycat had two special people in her life.
When we lost our two dogs within a few weeks of each other some years ago, my wife found this poem very comforting; you might too.
"The Rainbow Bridge"

The Rainbow Bridge sums it up well and anyone who doesn't think it is like losing a member of the family has no concept of the joy a pet brings.
Jellycat was well travelled and has made her final journey, but you will be feeling her around the place for weeks to come, just making sure you and the family are okay before resting.

Oh Graham, I am so sorry to hear about your loss of JellyCat. These wee fluffy friends are children pure and simple and their loss is heartbreaking. We get so much love, companionship and joy from our fluffy babies and I feel privileged that they choose to share their lives with us.

We had the same request when my Mum passed away last year. Mum wanted to be cremated with Herbie's ashes (her cat) and the undertaker told us this is not officially allowed.
However, the undertaker said to give him the ashes and the would hide it within the Mum's coffin. So off they went together. Mum, Dad and Herbie are now all together again.

I remember loosing both our cats shortly before we moved back from Canada to the UK and I still think about them all the time.

Thanks for all the comfort. It has really helped me a lot.
We brought Jelly back with us and I found a lovely spot near our apple tree for her. We look for her everywhere still but have contacted the local rescue centres to see if there is another friend who needs her forever home so fingers crossed.
