Title: Diesel Availability
Post by: geoffc on April 18, 2022, 07:59:40 PM
Is anybody else having difficulty in getting deisel. Why I ask is that last week I went to a filling station in Brize Norton to top up and they had plenty of petrol but no diesel. When I got back home to Bristol I went to the local Tesco's and only four out of sixteen pumps were dispensing diesel but all were dispensing petrol.
I know activists are blocking some refineries but Avonmouth on the outskirts of Bristol is unaffected, but why is it only diesel in short supply and there is next to nothing in or on the media about it.

According to some press reports, around 20% of UK diesel comes from Russia.

This for obvious reasons is now either under sanctions or avoided by the oil companies.

A much smaller percentage of UK petrol comes from there, so supplies are easier to source from elsewhere.

Apologies for being a tad late to this party. The shortages were caused by protestors blocking the three main refineries serving London and the South East all this month. I'm in Surrey and for 2 weeks was unable to get fuel ANYWHERE within 20 miles of my home. Last week Police broke up the roadblocks with a lot of arrests made and things are gradually settling down here. Prior to that hour-long queues were commonplace anywhere that managed to get a delivery, at the start I personally saw a forecourt of Chelsea Tractors all filling multiple fuel cans in their respective Boots after an article in one of the local rags broke the story.
Since then the press have kept sensibly quiet (for a change) so as not to instigate panic buying on a wider scale

I was expecting this thread to say there are still plenty of class 52s around the country but you still can't get a 45 for love nor money.
