I think the Brits had some red skies and a touch of Saharan dust last week, from a storm that came up from Morocco.
I heard a few folk complaining about the dust.
You can complain about the dust when it is as bad as the coating we got on our cruise ship last week. Parts of the ship had to be repainted!

never heard of hoses ??
I believe that's classified as a 'first world problem'.
Sure is.
But when you have an army of yacht cleaners, they need something to do...

Old news, Bob. Status Quo sang about 'red skies' years ago...........and they're prehistoric! :P
I was in Tenerife in February when the Calima sand rained down. My brand new very white Kia Sportage rental took on the hue of a very beige 1980s BL 1100.
We're still getting very orange dawns and sunsets in the UK so there's still a bit of dust up there..
Try driving in Saudi in a dust storm, the locals still try to drive at 120KPh when you can't see the end of the bonnet.
it was a common modification on air intakes to have a hole cut in the bottom of the air filter housing (before the filter) top allow the sand to drain out...
Didn't work that well, engine died through being strangled and you pulled off the road as far as you could get hoping a Saudi unguided missile didn't run into you.
When the dust storm cleared, you got out emptied the air filter housing, banged the filter many times to get the sand out, put it back together and carried on..

We were supposed to be going to Funchal on our cruise, then on to the Canaries. Then the entire itinerary was changed when we landed at Lisbon due to the storms on the way down to the Canaries. And we still suffered storms and closed ports in the Spanish Med.
I suppose I should be happy that the cruise after ours has got sunny weather and is on the right itinerary :)
(Even happier that Seaborne has offered all of us that lasted the Cruise out without flying home a free 7 day cruise in the summer, which is pretty good going in my book)

Question to @woodbury22uk (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=1599) - how did you track the ship and get that photo today?

Looked up Seabourn Encore itinerary online. Know the port. Knew someone staying in a hotel just above the port in Funchal. Friend sent me the picture. Easy peasy. Apparently TUI Marella Explorer and Nicko Vasco da Gama are also there.

Properly orange skies today. Some of it leaking into my house, although fortunately not in my railway room :)

And to think that I thought terracotta paint went out of fashion in the 1990s along with Lawrence Llewellyn Bowen!
It's all coming back to me. Aaagh!
Oooh spooky pictures! :-\
