Hello
Can any pyschics tell me when/if these new models will be released;
1. Hymek - Green no yellow panel
2. Class 73 - Green no yellow panel
3. Is a new type 24 on any manufacturers schedule.
4. Will a N Class be released without being weathered.
The Rails site has so many "pre-order" tags and second hand is getting very near to the recommended price.
Any news gratefully welcome.
Regards
Geoff
The green class 73 (no yellow panel) has been released (I have one)
Reference GM2210201 and running number E6003 but you may have to shop around
Hello Geofff,
1 No idea, although Dapol currently have a welcome policy of producing runs of past models - the 9F most recently. I don't know if there's been a re-release of Hymeks in the last couple of years so on current form there may be one soon. There are some Blue ones listed on their website at £119, but no Green.
2 Green 73 has just been released as part of the Gaugemaster / Dapol collection and is still available
3 I'm not sure there'll be a 'new' 24 any time soon - the Farish model is only a few years old and is pretty good by today's standards. They're due to re-run it in Blue and Green but an approximate delivery date is yet to be announced.
4 I think the Farish N class is available in unweathered Southern Wartime Black, although that may not be your era.
Both the Farish and Dapol websites are a useful resource.
All the best,
Mark
Hattons have the Hymek Green no yellow panel available for pre-order
A sort of answer is within the Dapol online catalogue. See http://www.dapol.co.uk/Catalogue/10/index.html (http://www.dapol.co.uk/Catalogue/10/index.html). This shows what is planned although it doesn't give any timings. I suspect this is because Dapol themselves don't know the timings. Dapol is a small business and can only do what it can do. I'm sure they would love to have everything available now but I expect there are practical business reasons as to why they can't.
My guess, made without any knowledge at all of Dapol's business, is that obtaining a production slot in the Chinese factories they use might well be difficult. The batch runs of N gauge locos are going to be fairly small beer for many factories so probably won't get top priority. Larger orders from elsewhere will be more important to the factory as they will produce more revenue. This is reasonable, for instance if it was your business a production run that will bring in £500k is going to be more important to you than a run than will only bring in £50k. Secondly, like every business, Dapol has to control it's cashflow. It could well be (and like I say I have no knowledge of Dapol's business) that they have to get the cash in from selling one batch of locos before they can order (and pay for) another batch of locos. I'm sure that is an over simplification of the actual situation but it is the basics of normal, prudent, business practice.
By the way, I want 2D-18-13, and I want I now!
If you think of Hornby's fairly recent history, they borrowed money for new models but then didn't get the sales they needed to service the loan and very nearly went bump. Since then there has been a rescue package with more money pumped in and a change of senior management at Hornby and they appear to be on the road to recovery. Hornby still have a significant amount of debt to service though so they have to keep getting good sales in order to obtain the cash to service that debt while also investing in new tooling so they aren't out of the woods just yet. Dapol are probably just running their business sensibly without taking the big risk of borrowing big and hoping for good sales. Instead they just keep a steady (but frustratingly slow to us) stream of items going through their business.
From what I have been told by a retailer, we should expect the class 66s and class 156s in March. Also the junction signals should arrive.

. . . and second hand is getting very near to the recommended price.
And some!! Yesterday a Class 153 in FGW livery (dc) sold on Ebay for £120. The new updated version of this is due go be released by Dapol any time soon and has a pre-order price of £105.
Many thanks for your comments.
The green class 73 was released last year , but the stock was sold very quickly - I pre-ordered with Rails but their pre-orders exceeded their allocation. I was helped last year by members of the forum in sourcing one, but had to be returned. I'm hoping for a re-run, but as Chris Morris stated it's down to economics with the manufacturer.
I know that the N class (BR version) is available, but it is weathered, and BobG stated that the weathering is very light.
The Hymek and Class 24 are both awaiting arrival, which is what prompted my question.
Again , thanks for your help.

Very much a how long is a piece of string question.
Pre Covid announcements meant nothing, see:-
J72 announced by Farish and Dapol, result? Both dropped it.
142 pacer, gap between announcement and model on sale? IIRC over a decade.
With Covid induced delays and shortages the answer is surely, who knows?
