Hi All,
I've had to recently send money to someone on the forum, and didn't manage to send it via the 'Friends and Family' option, thus incurring the recipient a small charge.
He was most understanding about this, thankfully, but I'm faced with a much larger money request to go to the US for some of Ross' goodies.
Can someone please help me locate and use the 'Friends and Family' option, as I'd rather not stuff it up again and look like an idiot. I jiggered if I can fathom it out.
:confusedsign:
:helpneededsign:
When sending money, after you put in the amount and choose the funding source I get an option of what the money is for, where the options are "Sending to a friend or to family" or "paying for an item or service". It's a menu you have to click into though, it has a default (which I think is goods & services or F&F if that's what you used for that payee last time).

I log in to the 'dashboard'.
There is the payment request from Ross, I click on it and have an option for 'Send payment'.
When I click on that I get a pop up with a top script that goes on about 'Send with buyer protection, etc.,' with another smaller window below that says 'Send to someone you trust', and there's a 'Continue' button lower down.
If I click 'Continue', it goes to a page with Ross' details and where I paying the money from, and a 'Send money now' button.
I can't see any soddin' reference to 'Friends and family' anywhere, and the 'Help' pages do no such thing!
Aaaargh.
"Send to someone you trust" is the equivalent of Friends and Family isn't it? You're foregoing Paypal protection. I think if you've had a request for payment it's assumed to be for goods and services unless you say otherwise.
I think if someone sends you a request for money (aka invoices you) and you start from there it's treated as a payment for goods & services. If you start by clicking the Send button, then you're offered the choice of friends & family. I think. :hmmm:

I'm starting to think I've got an odd 'version' of PayPal! I'm not seeing any 'Friends or Family' mentioned. Maybe they know me and assume I don't have any friends!
:(
I've sent the payment minus the buyer protection, hopefully that is correct. I'm sure Ross will let me know if not.
:worried:
Thanks for all your help, I'll let you know if I've got it right.
:thankyousign:
Yes I think Nick's right - if it's a payment request, rather than you instigating it then you select that you're paying someone you trust, and that has the same effect.
Yes, I think Nick is correct too. If someone sends an invoice there is no option to avoid the fees and the payee/recipient who has sent you the invoice will have a fee deducted. You're far better off to send money to someone's email address without them sending you an invoice. You can then select "Sending to a friend or family" as below. It may already be selected. If you select "Paying for an item or service" then the recipient will again have an amount deducted from what you pay them. The amount will vary depending on various criteria so if you trust the payee. I hope this helps:

Whats up with not using 'Buyer Protection', for a small fee of just 3.2% is it worth taking any risk?
If you sell something on the NGF facebook page you HAVE to include that in the price of the item you are selling, which I 100% agree with as it covers both parties!

With all due respect, I don't think you've read the entire thread.

My PayPal doesn't have the wording 'Sending to a friend or family', this is what is troubling me.
I must admit to not really knowing what I'm doing when it comes to PayPal - I've only used it three times, once buying stuff from NPN in the UK, dannyboy in Ireland, and most recently ohlavache in France.
I just follow the prompts, and I seem to recall that friends and family thing coming up. Wonder what's happened with yours? :hmmm:
Anyway, all worked fine.

I don't use the 'F' thingy but have sold lots off the N'Porium (see my trade count).
I insist on Friends & Family option and if that's not used request the balance be paid. Until I have the full payment nothing gets sent out.
@emjaybee (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=5604) you have my sympathies with the so called 'help' you get from Paypal (grrrr)

I have. But my point was why use the 'Friends & Family' option, when it is saver to use the buyer protection option!

Which is the exact opposite of the policy on the Facebook N'Porium so I'm surprised is not the same for the classified ads on here? I guess it's all about giving the buyer some degree of protection should the deal go bad and there is a dispute or whatever.
On FB the requirement is to include the Paypal G&S fees and the postage in the total price, though obviously there could be some variation in the final amount if for example it's a "best offer" deal and/or maybe international postage :)

Because I'm paying Ross for his 3D printing. I know, from what has happened previously, that I don't need 'buyer protection', as he has shown that he's prepared to stand by his products and resolve issues.

You only see the option if you decide to
send money to someone without them sending you an invoice or request. Try getting their email address and sending using the "Send and Request" option at the top of the page. Then type in the amount and on the next page the "Sending to a friend or family" option should appear.

And @Newportnobby (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=264) should know better re friends and family as per tanks rules!! ;)
@Only Me (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=1328) Sorry, but I've never been aware of any such rule ??? And maybe @Tank (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=2) would not like to lose the commission I always pay on selling through the N'Porium as I would just cease selling. :P
I do insist on using it on the Facebook N'porium group, as it has completely stopped the complaints from people who were getting problems. It saves me a lot of headaches, and makes the group a lot safer. I have noticed that I haven't made it a rule on here, but will look into it. To be honest, there is never any trouble on here. *touch wood*
However, ultimately, it's between the buyer and seller what they do. I'm just providing the platform for them to communicate the sale.
