Title: What did you get from Santa ?
Post by: guest311 on December 25, 2021, 02:04:32 PM
OK, not exactly from the big man himself,
but from his helpers at the National 'Elf Service..

earlier in the year I wasn't totally convinced that I would not be spending this christmas alone, but due to his helpers, SWMBO was still here, and with a recent check showing no recurrance of the cancer.

can't think of a better present, to be honest.

hope you all got what you were hoping for this year as well.

Got a B17 and a Tomytec chassis for a couple of projects, but the best present was our neighbour's daughter, who's 8 week old baby girl had been diagnosed with a heart problem that they were having a real time diagnosing - we found out this morning that it's a tear between the two ventricles, but it's apparently not an uncommon issue and surgery rates - if needed - are very good. Yes it may require surgery on an infant, which is still scary, but at least we know what's up and that the docs have good experience treating it. We'll take it!

Ross.

Having trained my relatives over the years, today the dear people stumped up enough Rails of Sheffield vouchers to pay for my M7 and ½ a class 28 when they arrive.
Now then - do I want the 'Bo' or 'Co' end of the 28? :hmmm: :confused2:

Surely the 'Co' end would give you more for your money  ;)

Lovely stories / results here folks, very Christmasy!

Anyway, my spoilt rampant consumer self secured funds for a Revolution Trains / Rainbow Railways 59/2 "First and Last" twin pack.

Note "funds", because trying to explain the above to my relatives would have been a real challenge  :smiley-laughing:

All the best to everybody

I bought one as a lockdown treat earlier this year. It is a superb piece of design which now sits on the mantelpiece in my kitchen.

Another Christmas present to yourself as well - you get to move this thread; hardly N gauge.

Like Newportnobby I have enough funds in my wheeling and dealing money to pay for my Western Region Revolution 128 when it arrives .
I trained my family several years ago  to give cash as I can open a shop selling socks , underpants ,handkerchiefs and toiletries .I have enought of all those to last me a life time .
But I will never have enough locos or rolling stock .

I struck lucky this year. As I'm apparently 'difficult' to buy gifts for (as like most grown ups, if there's something I need and can afford, I buy it for myself) I made a Christmas wish list of bits and pieces and now have about a kilo of wine gums and a whole lot of handy Airbrush paints and weathering paints as well as one of those hand held mini compressor airbrushes (handy for scenic work) and a proper soldering station at last. Also a small Kato bogie motor chassis I can design a loco or railcar body for :)

I also got a bag of "Big Cork" (loosely translated), which is a thing here. It's normally only on sale up to Christmas as people buy it to build their nativity scenes.

 A swan-necked magnifying lamp which I bought myself at a show a couple of months back which I told Mrs Papyrus she could buy me for Christmas. She didn't complain - she always says I am difficult to buy for. And copious quantities of lovely beer from the stepsons.  :beers:

Cheers,  Chris

Lots of drink from family :beers: :pint: :pint: :pint:

This is the BIGGEST one I'm allowed apparently, it has been rumoured I could work in Sweden on the track I know one or two things about these beasts!

I wonder what livery she will wear  :hmmm:

A Haynes Tornado book, a railway themed boardgame, and a
'beard buddy' (can/bottle opener cum comb keyring).
SWMBO and I bought each other very little as like others of our age we either have what we want or buy it when we see it throughout the year.

Other family gifts still to be given/received as Christmas Day is sort of on hold for a while due to Covid.

Oh, and I also expect to get a few pounds - not, sadly, of the Sterling variety. :D

@class37025 (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=311) definitely the best Christmas present for certain!

As for what Santa got me train wise well not a thing!
But I treated myself to a DB Schenker red class 67, Arriva trains Wales class 57 and 3 tiphook covered steel carriers all for the princely sum of £245 from Rails.
So Santa hasn't been so kind this year so next year he better improve his performance or we will be having words  :smiley-laughing:

God brought the rain and Santa brought the wind (via his Brussels office  :D). He also brought some thermal socks and lots of fleeces. Bit boring but much needed and appreciated.

His North London office did send some fine wine and a bit of cashola via my sister so am today looking for another Italian coach or wagons to go with my earlier in the year FS loco purchase to get my train fix. If not, I need some more Kato track feeders so it might be going towards Keith at Traintrax's Summer Holiday Fund.

Also, I gave myself a hangover so am pouring cures out as I write.

Happy Boxing Day, cheers weave  :beers:

Some gifts from Mrs Moose:

Yep, stickers for Mr Moose's water bottle and something to hold da Moose glasses...

Note: The rest of the gifts included: 1. A spin cycle to match the one Mr Moose gave her so da Mooses can winter train together, and 2. An AMT 1/25 scale late 1960's Cheverolet Nova SS model just like the one Moose built when just a mooselet.

when you see what he does with a 1:148 scale model Volvo, I shudder to think what he'll decide to do in the way of details on a 1:24th scale one  :hmmm: :'(

Got an Arduino starter set, so lots of learning to do before it can be put to use on the layout. Sure I'll be asking for lots of advice.

Santa brought me one of the EFE Claytons (D8560, green with SYP). It's on a running-in turn round an oval of track on the dining table as I type. After reading other members' comments I was a bit concerned I'd be having to take it to bits and clear excess grease out of the mechanism, but in fact it's an excellent runner. Smooth, quiet, controllable. Couldn't be more pleased with it. All that's needed now is for it to break down and catch fire.

Unlike the real life versions I think these are fantastic little locos. I got two a while back and they can haul a big train great at slow speed and nippy when powered up.

One of the best locos going I reckon.

Christmas around these parts is mainly decorative and not laden with expectations of various kinds, so there was a mainly symbolic exchange of gifts which left me slightly better outfitted with some miscellaneous items of clothing (including some padded cycling underwear (!)).

The primary seasonal gain was some quality free time to sort out and organize the Model Railway Stuff which has accumulated over the past couple of years, which was highly satisfying, though has already resulted in a bad case of "I can't find it and have absolutely no collection what clever place I put it"  :'( .
