Hi All,
Now it's all finished, I thought I would let you know what I've been up to these past few months
I started a bit of decorating, but the weather is not right for opening windows to let the paint fumes out, and paint is taking an age to dry, so I got down to rearranging my spare room / railway room.
A while ago I sorted out the little containers I keep scenic stuff in, so instead of piling them up on the floor, I have a shelf unit on the wall for them :D ....

My workbench has been a 4 x 2 sheet of MDF on top of the dressing table, with everything piled around it ....
I then had a tidy up ....
And moved everything over to the other side of the room, on the bed ....
Then I started assembling some new dressing table units ....
Once they were all put together, and adjusted to fit the space, I cleared up, and painted the wall ...
I wanted power sockets above the workbench, so as I don't want to go poking into mains electricity, I wired up one ordinary double socket, and one double socket with USB charging outlets to plugs I could just plug into the existing low level socket ....
Then in went the cupboard and worktop, and I found a set of shelves on wheels in a charity shop ...
With a bit of cutting down, they fitted next to the cupboard ...
Also, the containers from the plastic unit turned the other way round fit on shelves I put in ....
Then at the other end I put in the drawer unit, with a space for sheet materials by it's side, and a sliding trey under the workbench ....
The drawers coincidentally were just the right size to hold 4 of the food containers I get from ASDA
(3 for £1) ...
All done :D :D :D :D
(https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/gallery/117/5755-191221234123-1174572288.jpeg)
I wanted good lighting over the worktop, so I got a photographic light on Amazon, which I mounted on an adjustable arm screwed on the back of the bedroom door ....
The arm folds up flat, and the light unit "umbrellas" up when I use the room as a bedroom
(https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/gallery/117/5755-191221234126-1174602030.jpeg)
Overall, though it took a while to sort out, apart from the colour of the worktop not matching the units I am very pleased with how it turned out ...

As soon as Christmas is done, I can get back to modelling, and start my new layout in comfort.

Best wishes to all, and have a great Christmas
Kevin
:beers:
Great stuff! Your light certainly impressive.
I'm looking forward to seeing the results of all this organisation in due course.
Best wishes

Assuming, of course, that, having tidied everything up, you can remember precisely to where you tidied up the tools & materials that you require - we've recently been tidying up the clubrooms and, apart from the hand tools that I've hung on a tool rack and the power drills which we put on a newly erected shelf, we can't find a flaming thing :smiley-laughing:
Kevin. Great stuff at least you can find stuff now. Impressive
One thing with micro-layouts, is I don't have a lot of stuff to loose ;) but that doesn't stop me loosing it :D The sure fire way to re-locate stuff is to order a replacement .....you can guarantee you will find the old one within an hour of receiving the new one :D  :D
I also treated myself to a proper tool box ....

What rating cable have you used for those extended sockets? In the photo it looks a bit thin to handle 13A so I wouldn't go plugging a powerful heater in :) Might be sensible to fit 5A fuses in the plugs?
Pretty sturdy and organised toolbox kevin. Happy Christmas
Cheers Nick,
I know that you know your way around electrics, so I do appreciate your help. I am going into town in a bit, so will pick up something more suitable
Many thanks
All best wishes

Also, along the way I got these ....

I don't usually like buying stuff in little boxes like this, but I saw a better use for the box :D

Wow! What a transformation
Of course, we all know it can't last, especially when the new layout commences........ :)
Yay Mick ...... what's this payout I'm getting :D :D :D
Am I eligible for some sort of grant :claphappy:
Have a great Christmas
Kevin
:beers:
A bit late now, but something like this might have been better.

Hi John,
Thanks for that ..... sods law you find something when it's too late
However I'm glad I saw your post before going out, as the spec of the unit told me what wire to get for my sockets, so many thanks for the info  :D
All best wishes
Kevin

Good luck with the shopping kevin. A well earned pint or two is in order.
Oh all right then Chris :D

Impressive! Can you come and sort my work space out next? Mine's taken seven years and counting (and still isn't finished)...
I hope there's nobody else in the house likely to open the door whilst that big umbrella lamp is in use. Could it not be wall mounted?
Steven B.
Would be a pleasure Steve, as I have a lot of affection for Yorkshire as I had friends in Scarborough.
Trouble is you'll have to keep me cidered up :D :beers: :D
And yes, there's only me here so no accidents with the light,
All best wishes, and have a great Christmas.

:oopssign: I had my boxing gloves on as I'd caught sight of Liz Hurley's ankles* Typo now corrected.
*And then I woke up :(
All the best for the festive season, sir. :beers:
This guy at the Antipodes is quietly impressed and more than a little envious of all this.
Enjoy those pints! :beers:
Tidy!
:beers:
Very tidy and organised.. I have been promising Louisa that I would get the 'workroom' tidied up for over a week now but am still looking for the 'roundtuit'. And I have a big problem just around the corner - working in a shop, Louisa will not be at work Saturday, Sunday, Monday ........... and Tuesday. :worried:
Thanks Guys,
I am very pleased with how it has worked out, so I treated myself :D

Your welcome. I will be having a pint friday as off work. After last ditch shopping and sorting my own toolbox and work station. All i can say is festive cheers.
Hi All,
Hope everyone had a great Christmas, and here's wishing you all a very Happy New Year.
With my "Christmas Cracker" layout back from being on display, I am working on a few bits and pieces with it on my new work station.
As usual, you soon find the best places for all the tools etc. first thing that found its easily accessible place was this :D :D :D

I am actually working on electrics at the moment ..... what could possibly go wrong :D :beers: :D
It's a good job it's 12v and not 240 ;) :D ;)
All best wishes
Kevin
:beers:
No way is there anything left in that box! You had that on Dec 22nd and I didn't expect it to make it past Boxing Day.
Unless of course you took that picture last weekend :hmmm:
Yes John, there is some left :D
I was away staying with friends on Portland over Christmas so there was some to come back to :claphappy:
I must admit it is getting down to the sludge in the bottom of the bag, but that is good for adding to apple sauce giving it a nice flavour :D
All best wishes
Kevin
