Title: Cyber Clean - has anyone tried it?
Post by: silly moo on May 07, 2012, 01:00:08 PM
I have read about a cleaning putty called Cyber Clean, it looks like green slime and is mainly used for cleaning computer keyboards and mobile phones.

It can be pressed into crevices and removes dust and sanitizes the area that has been cleaned, presumably the dirt is retained within the putty. When it becomes full of muck it changes colour and you need to buy some more.

I thought it might be useful on my railway and wondered if anyone had tried it and what they thought of it?

It's not available here but as I will be in the UK within a few months if it's I can add it to my shopping list.

Regards

Veronica

I've been using it on my Mac keyboards and it does seem to work fairly well for getting in there and cleaning the crud out and leaves it with a lemony fresh smell :)

It's been in the UK for at least a year now (mine's that old). I think I got it from firebox.com

Hadn't considered using it on the layout though, mainly because it would end up full of ballast/scatter and any use on the rolling stock would risk getting bits left behind in them or oil from the gearing breaking down the Cyber Clean gel.

Do you think it would work for cleaning loco bodies? I will probably get some to experiment with. My layout gets quite dusty and I thought it might be handy for cleaning small things like cars and the roofs of buildings.

In theory it would. It would certainly get dust out of the nooks and crannies, plus you'd end up with lemony scented locos :)

For cleaning buildings, carriage roofs, locos etc I use a blusher brush, it  has a large head of soft bristles and works a treat.

For you guys, you'll have to be nice to SWMBO or be brave and buy one from the cosmetics counter.  ;D

Ah, but if you buy online you won't know whether you've got a nice soft one or one of the cheap bristly ones!       ;D

Busch have actually started selling it for model railway use.

It certainly works well on keyboards, remote controls etc.
