We enjoy using our camper van to visit steam railways. It is a very pleasant way to see the countryside without having to pack up the van, not to mention the obvious steam fix.
To date we have 'done' the W Somerset and Severn Valley, both of which had campsites within walking distance of a station. Can Forum members come up with any other Railways that have nearby campsites?
I'm sure there must be a campsite close to the Swanage/Castle Corfe line.

How far do you want to travel?
Fisherground station on the Ravenglass & Eskdale has a campsite right beside it. The intermediate stations on the 'Ratty' aren't open this season but, hopefully, will be next year. Incidentally, it's a stiff climb out of Fisherground, heading for Dalegarth, so you'll hear the engines working hard.
Best wishes
John

Your adopted homeland might be stretching it! but UK mainland is doable.
I was thinking that if you could get away for a few days, get yourself up to my real homeland. Embsay Railway, North Yorkshire Moors Railway, Keighley and Worth Valley - and there are plenty of campsites in those areas.
Very many thanks for all the ideas. Some trips to look forward to next year.
If you fancy travelling West, there are campsites near the Bodmin & Wenford Railway.
Isle of Wight Steam Railway. Lots of camp sites on the Island (There's a field next to Havenstreet station used for shows etc., it might be worth enquiring if it's available for casual camping at other times.)
Tynllwyn camping near Tywyn, Tallyllyn railway

East lance railway as a station on a caravan site
Bluebell Railway - At Sheffield Park there is a campsite opposite the station car park called Ouse Meadow Campsite. I stayed there in May, and there are some lovely countryside walks.
The toilet facilities were cleaned regularly. The only thing that may put you off is the outdoor showers. :)

Right next door to Northiam Station.
When we did the Yorkshire lines we camped at Flamingo land Zoo and fairground rides kept the kids happy in between railway visits.
Quite a few sites handy for the Swanage railway.
