Title: Arnold Brighton Belle
Post by: geofff on September 09, 2021, 03:38:46 PM
Hello

I would like to buy the N gauge Brighton Belle, brown and cream version (brand new according to the dealer on Ebay). He wants £275.00 but is now accepting offers and will take £240.00.

Do you think that this is good value? I will need to make space and will probably sell a Farish Castle and 4 choc and cream WR coaches to accomodate.

Regards

Geoff

Checking sold prices on eBay it's there or thereabouts, yes.

£240 seems fine to me, Geoff, but that's really irrelevant.
Question is - do you believe it's worth that? If not, walk away. If you want one, what price would you be willing to pay? Sorry, but I think at the end of the day it's your choice.

Presume that's for the full 5 car set?  I think I see the listing you're referring to.

I believe the brown/cream were always more popular then than blue/grey (Hornby had trouble shifting those I think)

Hattons are asking > £280 for the set

https://www.hattons.co.uk/newsdetail.aspx?id=632 (https://www.hattons.co.uk/newsdetail.aspx?id=632)

£240 seems ok, although it's not a model I've been in the market for so haven't watched prices.

As @Newportnobby (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=264) says, what is it worth to you ?

Looks like that Hattons page is the Dec 2019 price when it was first released as a two car set + three car add on set (HN3006 and HN3502) and it is no longer available from them. (they do list a two car set as a pre-owned poor runner for £127.)

i'm not a buyer of UK items but the price you are seeing of £240 for the full 5 cars sounds good if it is new unused stock.

Many thanks. I guess that the value is what someone is prepared to pay for it.

£240 is not an unreasonable price for the 5-car set, I was very lucky and picked up a Blue/Grey set last year for £200, including a DCC chip which I have removed.

But as others have said, is it a price you're comfortable with??

Cheers

Neal.

The blue grey version I paid £200 for brand new (HN3001/3501). The 1938 version would have been £200 new too.

I have paid £250 for a second hand 1938-56 version (HN3000/3500) (these were really desirable a few years ago) and £288 for a new 1964-68 version (HN3006/3502). Both umber and cream.

I think £240 is a good price for 2021.

Make sure it is the right era for you. The one with the Pullman crest on the cab fronts is the early version, the one with the yellow fronts is the sixties version.

I paid £250 inc P&P a few months back  for an early one so £240 is on the money i'd say.
