Title: Brussels model shops.
Post by: Conor1410David on July 18, 2021, 03:43:49 PM
Hello,
I am staying in Brussels for a few days next week. Can anybody please suggest some model shops worth visiting in the region?
I believe there is also a railway museum?
Many thanks,
Mark

There used to be a not-too-bad model shop near the Grand Place when I lived in Brussels in the early 2000s, but it shut down quite a number of years ago. I'm not aware of any model shop  in the city that does railway stuff other than that one. I can confirm that Train World at Shaerbeek station is well worth visit, though.

the only shop that I'm aware of is called Orient Express on Avenue Louise 195 in Ixelles.
but doesn't sell any N scale stuff and is almost exclusive Marklin HO stuff.
N scale is not really popular in Belgium - there is a shop near city of Leuven https://www.hetspoor.com/ (https://www.hetspoor.com/) & one in Wavre https://www.wavremodelisme.com/ (https://www.wavremodelisme.com/) both about 30 mins by car from Brussels that stock a small amount of N stuff but in my opinion not worth the trip out unless you are visiting something else in either town.

Regarding museums: Trainworld is well worth a visit - not a vast collection as in York - it's more an experience than a collection
If you're into trams there is also the Trammuseum: http://trammuseum.brussels/en/ (http://trammuseum.brussels/en/)
If you like trams, good food & have deep pockets you should book a seat on the TramExperience (https://visit.brussels/en/sites/tramexperience (https://visit.brussels/en/sites/tramexperience)) it's a tram converted into a mobile restaurant!
And finally in Forest area there is a 5" & 7" 1/4 live steam (garden) railway - https://ptvf.eu/ (https://ptvf.eu/)
