Hello,
I'm sorry it's taken this long to get this off the ground again. Very busy time at home at the moment.
So, for the 10th NGF Anniversary I'm going to commission the Dapol 20t Mineral wagon in a specific livery. Now, I was initially thinking of plastering the NGF on the side, however, I know members had thought of other ideas.
Please, can I have your ideas, whether it's to have the NGF logo, just NGF in white, something else like a name?, the colour of the wagon? I'm stumped! I guess a good starting point would be having the running number as 10. :hmmm:
I'll hold a poll with the more popular ideas and we can go from there. :)
Thanks,
Tank.
Instead of writing NGF or placing the NGF logo, it may be funnier to invent a fictive company related to the name of our forum. For instance: N. Gafo.
The location of this company could be Webshire.
Of course the road number would be #10.
.
"Messrs Grumpi & Auld"
Purveyors of finest Corn
We should have a
MODA Warwell wagon with a Tank load on it, in existence from 1942 so "most" layouts could run 1,
The MOD part of MODA can refer to the hard work the mods put into our forum and the Tank load for obvious reasons
Maybe more folks would be interested/buy more than one if it was kept simple and just had the running number 'NGF10', something simple Robbie might do for us :hmmm:

Just have something like this with NGF 10 in the panel (this image was just the first one that Google found for me).
Newport Grate Fuel
Coal Merchants
Napier Gradle & Foster
Finest Coal
etc.
I'd like one that stands out from the 'normal' wagons rather than a subtle wagon number or something.

If you'll forgive my alterations to your post...
...maybe like this?
Good point @emjaybee (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=5604)
What about this one @Tank (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=2) ? :)

Yeeeaaaaah, nooooooo.
Aquafresh isn't my cup of tea. To darn bright.
This is in recognition of Chris @Tank (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=2) 's efforts on the forum so it could end up as either toothpaste or De Walt colours
Thanks for all of your input so far.
@exmouthcraig (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=5099) Love the tank and MOD idea. :D Sadly, too expensive.
@zwilnik (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=8) I love this as well! ;D I imagine a lot won't like it for their layouts, but it could be a second option (as the idea is growing on me)! :smiley-laughing:

I'll try not to add a heavy influence on anything! ;D But I am trying to make it work for as many people as possible, so all ideas are good ideas. I think?! ;D

That's a good idea. I do want something large on the sides, but this would be a good idea as an addition.

I already have someone lined up for these. They're just waiting on me to send a draft of the idea that we come up with.

This is the kind of thing I also have in mind, but with different colours. Darker.
A reference to the South East region is a very good idea.
Is there any usual livery for this kind of wagon running in the South East?

What about the North West - and the South West, North East, Midlands, Wales and Scotland?

As mentioned in a previous message, the South East region was suggested to thank Tank for his huge work on this forum.
I don't have a problem with NGF being plastered over the sides. It there to advertise us after all, and makes for a unique wagon.
My NGF hopper is one of my favourite wagons!
It's a one-off and a livery like this would keep the rivet counters busy for years
I'm for a big NGF on the sides.
Good one guys...
I see no point in the exercise if it's just supposed to blend in with everything else!
It's a special wagon!

I was wondering if we can 3D print a bulk load of rivets to fill them with. Just to keep them even busier :)
Let's not drag 'purists' into this and deride them.
This wagon is not one to do anything but advertise 10 years of the NGF and so is unlikely to appeal to everyone.
Except me... a bit like a Blue Pullman ;D
Rather than a specific livery, how about a ziggy-zaggy 'NGF' on the sides as spray-painted graffiti? That could appear on any layout in any region and nobody would feel left out.
Cheers,
Chris
That's a good idea, except I'm not sure they had spray cans in those days?
Picky, picky, picky! :laughabovepost:
I just provide the ideas. I leave others to work up the details... :D
Cheers,
Chris
You and me both

This is incompatible with the "robust deterrent policy" in place on my layout to deter graffiti "artists".
I would however be open to the idea of a wagon with a third-rail pickup shoe.

Are you sure they were Shiitake mushrooms you had for breakfast this morning, Squiddy? :worried:
I'd replicate what was done by Robbie's Rolling Stock for the 21t hopper:
Large NGF letters on the side with a big #10 as it's fleet number.
If you want to include a nod to Tank then either add "Tank Colliery" or perhaps use NSE red, white and blue for the colours of the NGF lettering.

Maybe graffiti one side and another (earlier) design on the other would make it more marketable?
How many layouts are there where only one side of a piece of stock is ever visible?
I'd consider a more authentic pre-1959 design on one side of mine. How about alternative transfers?

That would be another good NGF merch thing anyway whether it's a 10th anniversary one or not. An NGF transfer set that can be applied to wagons, coaches, locos etc. :) (think graffiti, logos, wagon numbers etc.)
grimethorpe colliery livery maybe...
add a white NGF onto the furthest left panel?

Something like this would suit me. It's completely out of era for me but I think it might look nice being shown off on a section of isolated track in front of the station.
Maybe yellow and black DeWalt colours and bold NGF 10 on sides
