Assuming that the widow left as much as her late husband, it's a shame that the children have decided to sell their father's legacy for more cash rather than donate it as a whole collection to a steam museum to run ...

Is it a question of money - not necessarily for everyone.

The thing is, at the club I frequent a couple of the guys are forever turning up with their latest purchase, sometimes several obtained at the same time. I wonder how can a model really be appreciated when it's just one of many that's superseded a couple of weeks later by a new model.

I prefer to savor each one, maybe changing this or that to make it unique and then I can appreciate it despite another arriving a few months later.

Trouble is that the £'s outlay doesn't stop at the Locomotive.  You'll want something to haul behind it, and somewhere to run it (a good run mind).  Have a feeling thats beyond UK lottery win...   Now where did I put my Euro lotto ticket....

:smiley-laughing:

They are possibly the most amazing and beautiful bits of modelling i've ever seen! They belong in the science museum in London in that bit with all the model trains and ships. If i had the cash i would decorate the house with as many as i could afford, they are works of art. Might have to talk to Mrs Muster and see about a second mortgage....

It's interesting to see the value put on them... There is an auction here in May where a friend's son is auctioning a 1968 Mustang. It is pristine and the only bits not original are the paint and the tyres. It is expected to fetch the same price as that whole collection.

I think I would relocate to Switzerland and buy the whole thing in situ and keep it running as it was intended by the purchaser when he collected and built it originally
A link in that article for an auctioneers specialising in toys, boats, railways etc. linked me to a link I had been looking for for weeks now

I'd swear i've seen some of these locos before.... The Duchess at Warley a few years back, some of the GWR stuff at STEAM in Swindon last year and possibly at the Gloustershire & Warickshire railway as well...

As a qualified engineer myself, I can understand the amazing amount of work that would have gone into building each locomotive... Pure works of art, i'm very jealous of the lucky new owners !
