Has anyone been brave or stupid enough to attempt to weather their revolutioN sturgeon wagons???
I have 6 without doors that are to run with track panels on, I've built 60ft sections of finetrax code 40 rail and these are being painted to replicate brand new panels.
I have 3 with doors that will probably be loaded with junk sleepers, spoil heaps and generic track laying junk as they were.
But has anyone attempted weathering these??? I have 1 colour picture of a doored version at Windermere yard in 1969 and the wood doors have faded badly and naturally the hinges are rusting but these at forty odd quid a wagon it's a brave attempt to weather them.
I'm sure I'm in the stupidity bracket and as such only just attempted to weather 1 side, I dont know what the floor was in the originals to know how to attempt to weather that.

Any help, advice, showing of your own horrors or success invited
That looks quite good. Maybe not weathered enough? Well, you know best if you have photographic evidence.
I say well done. :claphappy:
Hi there,
That looks pretty good to me. The floors on the real things are steel checker plate, as depicted in the models, so just a wash or patina of rusty weathering should do the trick.
Cheers

It's still very much work in progress, my other reason behind being a bit restrained with them is that they were at tops 10years old for our 1962 based layout,
I have chomped on the brave stick and begun weathering the insides

Craig,
Now that is looking rather tasty

In answer to your thread title.......................................no :
The reason being I'm hoping to make another commission for you :) ;)
Well I planned to attempt to make this sturgeon look like it had been dragged out to replace some damaged sleepers, shes had some used ballast thrown on along with a few rotten sleepers, couple of shovels, hammers and a few bits of chain.
I dont know if the PW gang needed anything else or if this was typically the way they were used but it has come together reasonably well to my eyes so hopefully it gives the right impression.

What?! By turning a mighty fine wagon into a mighty realistic wagon?! :laugh3:
What I really like about your treatment of these Craig, is that you've used such a light/controlled touch. I'm often my own worst enemy with weathering, adding just another flourish that is one too many. I'd have probably loaded that wagon till it was out of gauge.
Keep up the good work and keep sharing it please.
:beers:
Hi Craig,
What an absolutely superb job!
Cheers

Lovely work weathering the Sturgeon.
A Stove R or second brake van could be used for the track workers and their tools.
My Sturgeons will be running with a Queen Mary at one end and a standard BR brake van at the other.

Hi Craig,
I referred to the weathering as tasty previously, but now it is a WOW, excellent work my friend, look forward to seeing more, including the fully weathered train.

@Nbodger (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=8543) no pressure then mike :-[
Ben, Mark, Steven :thankyousign:
I have always worried that an easy way to weather was just blast a layer of frame dirt over everything. With not having my airbrush and spray booth set up I've had to attempt dry brushing and weathering powders which seem to give a more realistic image, again like we all know seeing it on the layout 4ft away makes it much better looking version then a zoomed in screen filler.
Hopefully I can get the others looking pretty decent :hmmm:
