Pete Waterman is buiding this 00 gauge layout of the WestCoast mainline which is being exhibited in Chester Cathederal this summer.
It's long!
I envy the poor people who have to wire the layout. Fab though

Just over 10 minutes, George
Mick. I think George was referring to the length of the layout .
very impressive, at 64' long it certainly is long. Should have gone for N, could have achieved it in 32'.

did like the interview with pete himself. Still impressive and be interesting to see
Not sure how long the layout is but I think it should have been a longer interview with Pete Waterman himself though.
Probably more interesting than the layout, which looks pretty boring to me :sorrysign:
As the French say " chacun à son goût"
And according to Google translation services I agree. Or je suis d'accord
Thank you very much for posting this @lil chris (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=1784) . I found it fascinating. It's often layouts that are far removed from one's own modelling interest that are the most engaging. And it's always interesting to hear what Mr Waterman has to say.
Thanks again and best wishes.
John
I'll definitely be paying a visit, only 5 miles from here.
Thanks Guys for all the comments, I thought it may be of interest to some even in 00 gauge. I went to a EM show once just to see one layout that used to be in Railway Modeler years ago. That was one of the layouts that inspired me to take up this hobby, I remember the name now, Peter Denny I think the layout was called Buckingham.
I think if this display goes ahead I will pay a visit to Chester to see this, keeping my fingers crossed.

Everyone has gout??
Well I paid a visit to Chester Cathedral today to see Pete Waterman's layout. And very nice it is too. I must admit I spent more time round the back watching how they did the movements, very interesting. Even managed to have a few words with the man himself, very pleasant and down to earth. I asked what control system he was using and he said he was using an ancient Zeemo (Zimo??) DCC system, and it all worked without fault while I was there. Worth the visit!
Looks like another reason visit to Chester in the next few weeks. For those who are interested and not watched the video, on display everyday in the Cathedral and be there until mid September.
Bit gutted I can't go and see this, looks superb, just a bit far for a day trip!
I took swmbo to Chester on Wednesday, she is accusing me of tricking her into going. She is saying I only wanted to go to see the railway, you can't win. We had a nice day, she loved the cathedral and we had a walk round the city. To be honest I was a bit disappointed with the railway, imagine too how much could have built in n -gauge.

Zimo, of decoder fame, also make a VERY expensive DCC system.

Sat 2nd - Sun 3rd October 2021
Arena MK, Stadium Way, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire MK1 1ST
Where have you seen that?
On the Hornby video Pete Waterman says they will be at Milton Keynes, then the layout will either be sold or dismantled.

To be honest that's what I thought too but it is probably more impressive in the flesh. I did watch it after looking at videos of Czech modular layouts which seemed far more interesting!
It does also seem to me to reinforce the idea that if you want to model full-length trains then you need a cathedral in which to do it.
It's very hard to gauge scale looking at layouts online but I was far more taken with Dallam Sidings in the Virtual Forum.
Despite his contributions to the hobby I personally haven't got time for the man, his arrogance exceeds my patience!

Perhaps you did, the one I spoke to was at Warley and spoke to me in a tone I didn't appreciate, I remember walking away thinking what a total A_hole.
I always address people in a friendly manner and always "Talk to others how I want to be spoken to" On that particular day it didn't work so I guess he must have been stressed out or something!
