Title: Friends of Pendon
Post by: zwilnik on January 27, 2021, 10:43:45 AM
Pendon Museum's layouts have always been an inspiration for my railway modelling since I last visited it a long (long) time ago as a teenager. It's not N gauge, but the modelling and detail are a great target to aim for in any scale.

As I was starting the initial design work for my new layout, I thought I'd have a look at the Pendon website ( https://pendonmuseum.com (https://pendonmuseum.com) ) and refresh my memory and get a few ideas of details to try and noticed the Friends of Pendon link. Friends subscribe annually and apart from supporting the museum (especially critical in current interesting times) you get access to far more information, articles and pictures on the site and a quarterly newsletter.

Well worth it and it feels good to be supporting something that was part of what kicked off my love for the hobby.

Some of those locos look familiar - probably because they are in Guy Williams' book "Model Locomotive Construction in 4mm Scale" which I bought years ago, in my less enlightened days of course  ;)

Maintenance work is still going on at Pendon, though without visitors there is no income.  Closed circuit tv has been installed to help operators monitor hidden parts of the system and so that Dartmoor can be run without having the operator in the public aisle.  All was prepared for the return of the public and then lockdown become necessary once more....
