Ok, so I've decided to fit sound to my new BachFar 8F.
Unfortunately, my LMS 8F wasn't available with fitted sound.
I've heard the BachFar sound loco, and I quite like it. Does anyone know what sound profile/company they used, and where I can obtain it?
I'm struggling to find a supplier for sound file/chip.
Hi
Don't know who Farish used for their sounds but Youchoos to a 8F and can blow it to a next18 decoder
Others will be along soon with their recommendations

Bachmann/Farish have yet to make their DCC Sound decoders available as a separate item.
Until they do, there are a few suppliers that may be able to help:

If you want the Farish sound decoder then you'll need to find someone who wants one of the sound fitted liveries (late BR crest & LMS red) but doesn't want sound and arrange to swap some £££s for the decoder.

My early crest example has a Zimo MX658N18 sound decoder and You-Choos sound file fitted, it sounds great. John of You-Choos is really helpful, below is a link to their 8F project page, it is not yet updated with the Farsih N Gauge model but there is a sample of the sound there to listen to: -

I paid £101.70 including postage.
No connection, just a regular and very satisfied customer.

Thanks fellas, getting closer.
Sooo, does anyone know how much space is available for a Next 18 sound decoder? I'm currently looking at Zimo MX658N18/MX659N18, but try as I might I can't find any data on available decoder size in the tender.
I'd prefer to fit the MX658N18 at 25 x 10.5 x 4 (mm) as it has a slightly higher rating and stay alive capacity.
Has anyone had the top off their tender?

The MX 658N18 is what is in my 8F, it fits no problem.

Aha!
@Dr Al (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=263) if I could disturb you for a moment. It's been pointed out that you've had the tender top off your 8F, I was wondering if you could tell me if a Zimo MX658N18 would fit in. Dimensions are as above.
Hope you can shed some light. Cheers.

Bachmann's factory fit chip is a Zimo unit as far as I know, so it's probably the same one - so I doubt fit would be an issue. There's more space in the 8F tender than the Castle, for example.
Cheers,
Alan
Sorry, am I reading this right? Over £100 to put a sound chip in the 8F....... Wow, I'll come round and make chuffing noises for a month for that!
Dave
Yep, that's what decent sound decoders cost presently.
Well the sound fitted 8f's are going for £220, that's what I paid for mine and it sounds superb.
Oooo, okay, everyone calm down.
Firstly, apologies. I'm not sure how, but I didn't see the post from @Roy L S (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=242) , don't know how I missed, but sorry. Second apology to @Dr Al (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=263) for disturbing him when I should have already seen the answer.
@Southerngooner (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=3680) yup, its eye watering, but it may well be the only loco I ever do sound on, so I'm going for the best version I can get. I can promise that my fleet of eight Jubilees will not be getting done, for £850 I can buy myself another eight Jubilees and get Ozymandias to repaint them.
Although I'm tempted to take you up on the 'chuffing noises for a month' for £100. Do you bring your own refreshments or do I have to provide that?
I've got to spend my Christmas money on something.
Oops.
Another apology. Sorry @Roy L S (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=242) you actually told me twice that it fitted.
Blimey, I'm in my 'senior moments' phase.
And so young...
:(
I think I'd need full board for that money! My quote was sort of based on personal experience many years back when I splashed out £150 on a Halfords compressor to spray my models and a friend said that was a huge amount of money, and that she'd come round and blow for £100 a session! I think that would have quite different meanings these days.....

Full board! Who do you think you are, the Station Master?
Yoikes!
I was thinking a cuppa every hour on the hour, and some authentic Travellers Fare (remember them?) cheese and tomato sandwiches. Maybe one of those giant cookies if you were 'authentic' on the sound front.
Your friend sounds interesting...
;)
I also got bitten by the sound bug and spent a small fortune converting my fleet of steam and diesel models.
Then suddenly one day I realised that all I was doing was occasionally turning the sound on for a few minutes, then got board and turned them off, in my railway room they overpowered and got unpleasant for anything other than a few minutes, or was just turned on to show someone what these little models can do these days but that was it, but were too quite for exhibition use.
So one day in a fit of Madness I sold all my sound models and actually got back everything I had paid out so we able to not only replace everything with nice new silent models but also had enough money to almost double the number I had.
I quite enjoy the peace and quiet now.
