Title: Spanners for valve gear removal
Post by: Bob G on November 28, 2020, 02:53:51 PM
An NGS helpline user has asked me what type of spanner should be used to remove a Duchess valve gear to fit traction tyres.
As I dont go anywhere near Duchesses, could someone point me to what the modeller should be using please?

Best
Bob

I don't know the Duchess model, but I prefer nut spinners for this sort of thing with my Continental locos. I keep a couple of sets of small sizes one metric and one BA.  One was from Expo and the other from Rolson (though I forget which is which).

[edit] The Expo set I have is the BA set. Without having the loco in front of me I couldn't say if it needs BA or metric spinners.

If it's a latest model then a Dapol nut spanner from one of their locos will fit. I use my Britannia one all the time.
