Title: Paxman's diesels closing
Post by: martyn on November 11, 2020, 02:23:44 PM
It has been announced that the Paxman's diesel site in Colchester is to be closed by MAN group.

There is a long, if sometimes love-hate relationship with the railways.

For the history of the firm, and also what news is known about the closure, see here;

Whatever other types of their diesel engines had faults, the HST story would have been different without the Valenta and VP185 engines.

Yes, this can only be read as sad rail news - even if only because of the HST link.

Bit of history with the RN too IIRC. I think probably a lot of folk who've ever worked in Mech Eng will know the name and be saddened by it's passing. We'll get over a little sadness - hope those whose jobs and livelihoods are affected get help and support and are to recover soon.

Their engines were used in both the Royal navy and Merchant navy; in the MN they were generally used as generators rather than propulsion motors.
