Title: Dapol Club Magazine 3rd quarter 2020 Report of Progress
Post by: Bob G on October 24, 2020, 11:03:58 AM
I'm posting this as there seems to be some revision of the state of progress on certain Dapol models in N gauge.

I can't talk about the modern stuff on this list (i.e. the last 30 years or so), as I'm not interested in them, but:

The SR olive versions of the Maunsell high window stock were shown as deco samples on Hattons website two days ago, and are expected in the shops in November (hurrah, but I want the BR(S) versions please). https://www.hattons.co.uk/newsdetail.aspx?id=856 (https://www.hattons.co.uk/newsdetail.aspx?id=856)
HST-P report is correct - they are now on sale at Dapol. https://www.dapol.co.uk/shop/n-gauge/hst/HST-P-AVAILABLE (https://www.dapol.co.uk/shop/n-gauge/hst/HST-P-AVAILABLE)
Class 50 is correct, as far as I am aware. https://www.hattons.co.uk/newsdetail.aspx?id=309 (https://www.hattons.co.uk/newsdetail.aspx?id=309)
M7 makes sense but its been in CAD for a long time for just a new chassis.
BOB/WC is a backward step (again)!!!
Dogfish have actually gone to deco stage as Hattons have released artwork on these this week. https://www.hattons.co.uk/newsdetail.aspx?id=838 (https://www.hattons.co.uk/newsdetail.aspx?id=838)

The next club specials are still going to be a new M7 with two coaches, and WC 34001 Exeter in BR Early crest/air smoothed tender (livery valid until rebuilt in 1957 IIRC), but when? ???

Let the grumbling commence!

I can only assume the WC R&D delays have been in finding a suitable motor and mech to reliably haul a heavy die cast loco, or in designing something that fits within the tolerances of die cast whilst maintaining fidelity. It's not as though details of the prototype are hard to come by!

Such an odd choice for their first non carden tender loco - a barely visible cab interior, and if it just slips pulling heavy trains, well, all the more prototypical!

On the plus side, whilst the new model pipeline is still a little clogged, it's nice to see Dapol finally churning out plenty of n gauge stock at the moment after a bit of a quiet patch. Westerns rocking up soon, JA for Gaugemaster apparently in December, maunsell high windows, terriers... Probably even some non-SR/WR stuff too if you're that way inclined!

I'm waiting now on some new schools and that new M7, as well as some unlined olive and malachite maunsells. Given that (other than the malachite) the schools sold well, I'm surprised at the delay. And I suspect the poor sales of line green was only because beyond the old farish pullman k there's nothing for them to haul!

I might give the new M7 a whirl if I'm still alive to see it ::)

(Already been told not to buy any LP records or unripe bananas)

Oh alright then!

The proposed N gauge class 59 isn't even mentioned, probably because it's behind the "clog" in the "pipeline" that is the BoB / WC.

Can't even find a CJM 59 let alone chop off body parts to afford one.

I also don't get how the HIAs can still be in awaiting decorated samples when they only exist in two liveries and Dapol have already done both!

Are these projects going to be affected by the scrapping of the Dapol collectors club next week?

I'd love a retooled M7. I did once own the Maunsell green version and it was a lovely model. I sold it on Ebay a few years back for a huge profit. But recently I've regretted selling it. So it's great news to discover there's potentially a new M7 coming along in the future.

Not directly, no. They are all general release products.

Here's hoping that the M7 will be available in LSWR livery. I remain hopeful that one of the old batch will make it's way into Hatton's preowned service, but that's a long shot.

Rails of Sheffield just posted pictures of the NRM special run so they should be getting closer.  Haven't heard any progress reports on the KMS Scotrail HST ... hopefully it is not too far behind.
