I have to say the Giro d'Italia has been fascinating to watch although the coverage on Quest doesn't suit me as much as ITV4.
Tomorrow sees the start of the Vuelta in Spain and Chris Froome's last outing with Ineos. Here's what he has to say about it.............

I hope he does well, but 16 months without a stage race is a long time to be out of the game.
I think the the Giro has been fabulous, and Ineos seem to be doing ok without G and Froomey, although Narvaez had a bad "off" yesterday so I don't know whether he will start on Tuesday.
Missed the start of the Giro and didn't follow it as normal so will be keen to follow the Vuelta.
The two big question marks are Coronavirus and especially the weather - a few tasty crosswinds will get the echelons forming and it's anyone's guess what the mountain top routes will be like at this time of the year.
sorry, got me confused [which doesn't take much] thought a GIRO was what you got from the job centre :-[

Ask Oscar, he'll know :smiley-laughing: :smiley-laughing:
The Giro (and the Tour) have been so unpredictable due to the form book having gone out of the window. Obviously the Vuelta is the least disrupted, and should be most immune from bad weather. But we shall see...
is this what I have come to :-[
I need to get advice from a Husky :'(
Only if he knows how to say JSA. You get it for 6 months and then you get kicked into touch if you have worked all of your life and paid for everything you own. If not they'll keep paying you it. Sorry, does that sound like sour grapes?
Back on topic, here's a bike:

Psst, it's leaning against the end of the tent in case you didn't spot it
Just as well you told me... I was about to ask "where?"
I refer you to Mick's post (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?topic=51353.0) from yesterday.
Some first stage and nicely bounced back Primoz Roglic.
Froomey looks way off the pace.

A very interesting 1st (4th) stage with many major riders not doing too well as expected. Chris almost 10 minutes down but circumstances have decreed this is a rehab exercise for him. If he hasn't improved greatly by the 3rd week (if it goes that far) then I think he ought to call it a day and retire.

After a great ride in yesterday's stage of the Giro d'Italia, Aussie Ben O'Connor of team NTT went even better today and won the stage which had 5600 metres of climbing over the stage length by some 5 minutes or so ahead of the main peloton. Shame NTT are pulling out at the end of this year so Ben is looking for a job.
Downhill breakaway from a small group of riders for Marc Soler in stage 2 of the Vuelta. Hugh Carthy (GBR) was in the mix yesterday and today and is 5th overall at 20 secs.
This week I har mostly been watching the Vuelta on ITV4 at 7pm then the Giro on Quest+1 at 8pm :D
This thread is full of spoilers for me now. :(
I'm recording todays races this evening to watch tomorrow. Don't worry, I'll unsubscribe 'til Vueltas over.
:oopssign:
Sorry, Trev
I'll keep schtum for a couple of days after each stage :-[
Sorry - didn't realise highlights were being shown. :sorrysign:
Yes, I record on Eurosport in the late evening, to watch at lunchtime the following day, but no problem, you folks carry on posting when you want, I'll stop watching this thread. I saw Geoghegen Hart come second today, but that was yesterday for you.
Wonderful ride by Dan Martin to clinch a stage win, but very sad to see in the 'truncated' Giro that 1st and 2nd were from 2 teams vanishing at the end of this season.
And so the season came to a close yesterday with the last stage of the Vuelta in Madrid. Who would have thought all 3 major tours could have been packed into so few months?
The 3 have brought out some superb riding and not a few surprises.
Chapeau to Roglic, Geoghan-Hart and (more locally) Hugh Carthy (the Preston Peddler) along with all the other stage winners. Great to see Jumbo-Visma, Sun Life and Movistar putting on team performances but sad to see Ineos Grenadiers not up to the standard we've known from Team Sky over the past few years. There is a lot to build on, though.
Roll on next year - the telly won't be the same without road cycling for a few months
Yes Mick, totally agree, it's been great. I've caught up now, just watched Madrid whilst having lunch today. Carapas nearly did it on Saturday, was willing him on like mad, but alas not to be, although he cut the deficit in half. Agree what you say, quite a few new names sticking it to the old guard. Let hope next season will have a few more races.
As an aside, I recently bought Carlton Kirby's book, "Magic Spanners", very entertaining with his anecdotes, and a lot of inside info on the teams and some riders. Recommended.
