Title: Blue Pullman coach lighting.... what colour ?
Post by: badgercote on September 03, 2020, 03:53:26 PM
I'm going to fit the Layouts4u lighting kits with reed switch into my Blue Pullman set, 4 coaches and 2 end cars.
They do warm white strip lights but is this the most appropriate colour for this set.
Should it be a bit brighter/whiter?
Thanks.

Based on age and era these would probably have been incandescent yellow. Fluorescents were not fitted to coaching stock prior to Mk 3s which came in mid 1970s, IIRC (or maybe the later Mk 2s), and were retrofitted to DMUs on refurbishment in the late 1970s/ early 1980s.

If anyone is a BP specialist they would know for sure.

The main lighting was by twin warm white fluorescent tubes along the centre roof line, hidden by diffusion panels. This was supplemented by tungsten lamps fitted on the underside of the luggage racks plus table lamps fitted centrally to the side walls just above the table surfaces so table cloths could be changed quickly.
