Title: Farish 1940/1950s station staff 379-317
Post by: Newportnobby on July 11, 2020, 03:46:10 PM
These little fellas almost crept under my radar but I spotted them on Fleabay whilst trawling for some other stuff. Got a couple of packs post free which made them slightly cheaper than Rails of Sheffield. It seemed weird buying from Broughton Newsagents in Cumbria - made me think I'd ordered a subscription to an iffy publication but very good service and delivered today by Herpes......

The way I find with the packaging is to cut around each figure and gently prise out and remove that piece of sellotape . Fiddly but the awkward bit is the fixing to platforms which I achieved by a tiny blob blue tac and a dab of superglue, let dry then paint round the base

The seller broughtonrail?

If that's who you mean, it's actually the Post Office in Broughton-in-Furness - although significantly more of their display area is model railway stuff (more OO than N though) than is postal, stationery or newspapers/magazines.

They are just up the road from the old Broughton railway station, as featured in The Coniston Railway - both the original and my model.

They are most certainly a good eBay seller, frequently theirs are the cheapest prices on eBay and I can certainly vouch for the service - they are the only eBay seller where I've had same-day delivery, although that could have something to do with them only being 9 miles from me and one of the staff living in the same village as me  :D

I have also looked at these Farish figures but never actually got to buying some.

Looked a few days back at the Modelu website, the first time in quite a few months. Is it me or has the price of each individual N gauge figure almost doubled?
They look to be fantastic figures and poses, but to supply all of my steam locos with a crew will now cost an arm and a leg.

Maybe find a pack of 5 and see how they look placed on the loco. Agree with that trkilliman statement. Yes they are fantastic figures however, have not seen anything cheaper. They do look realistic though

I've been tending to acquire second hand or "old stock" figures off eBay as and when I spot them so I've got a reasonable stock of "suitable" loco crew ready for when I start putting 'em on locos. I've also got a good stock, albeit a mixture of quality (or otherwise), of other people, many of which need painting.
However, what I didn't have was much in the way of station staff, after populating Coniston, Torver and Woodland, so I've bought the same as Mick, the Farish 40s/50 set - which I added to Broughton this morning. They most certainly are better than any others I have but, at the price, so they ought to be.

I agree with @trkilliman (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=2838) , modelu have exceeded themselves in quality and price with their Ngauge resins. I have found Hardys good value if your into painting your own resins.

I have about ½ a dozen packs of the Farish train crew in 'store'.
The Farish figures are cheaper than the likes of Preiser and Noch but are still quite dear. At least they look the part rather than some I've seen which are straight out of some horror film :o
