Title: Airbrush for an intermediate user - suggestions wanted!
Post by: NOE 544R on July 10, 2020, 02:18:29 PM
Hi all,

Having spent lockdown using my airbrush for a variety of tasks, I am now looking to invest in a better model. The one I own came part of a deal for a compressor (hence why I originally purchased it), and being cheap has ultimately become tired (the airbrush that is, not the compressor).

Its intended use for those interested is to weather track, loco's and rollingstock.

So, any recommendations?

I bought one of those cheap compressor + airbrush deals a couple of years ago. I quickly grew to dislike the airbrushes supplied with it and shelled out on an Iwata Revolution HP-CR Medium. Not cheap but in a completely different ballpark from the basic ones.

I haven't done the sort of painting you intend, but I'm sure it's up to the job. You might want one of the finer nozzle models though.

I've used an Iwata Neo for the last three years and it's been good for all the things you want to do, as well as being inexpensive.

Look for one where you can get spare parts. Badger have a good reputation. My Iwata Neo works well and is well priced.

Check out Ultimate Modelling Products, they sell their own brand of airbrushes, all made by Badger, Neo airbrush are OK but some parts are a bit fragile

Thanks for all the suggestions, decided I'll give the Iwata Neo a go!

I bought a Neo to replace the generic cheap airbrush sets you get. It's very nice. Not much more to say! Results are better when you get into more detail. For block colour I'm not sure there's any real difference.
