What is this and is it important?
I appear to be missing one on my CL25's leading bogie! :(

I believe that's a sandpipe, which would be important if your layout is vulnerable to leaf fall etc., but not essential to the running of the loco.

Thanks chaps!
Okay, so not going to interfere with the operation and barely visible.
I'll pretend it fell off in the wind.

wet rails as well.
glue a small super magnet underneath a waggon, and run it around - it might find the missing part for you!
I'll eat my hat if it's metal.

The 'sanders' (as I now understand them to be) are metal, painted black.
The detailing pack however, is all plastic.

just hope they don't cause any running problems. I've fitted them to my 25 too

Oh sorry, I misunderstood your question - I thought you were debating the materials! :)
Yes, on the Class 25 with the snow plough, the curly pipe needs trimming a few mm (you won't notice). Otherwise the front bogie frame clips it on turning.
I assume this would be the case for most locos, especially with ploughs fitted.

I should have mentioned I knew the materials the pipe and around that area needs a trim or securing. A couple of quid later in the tin and sore fingers , tweezers and care with superglue etc later job done. Looks really good. Make sure the front bogie frame does not clip
