Title: any suggestions
Post by: guest311 on April 27, 2020, 07:16:21 PM
I have recently sold a number of items to a member who I have not dealt with previously.
he has now received the parcel, but says two items do not work.

all items were test run prior to packing, on DC, and all worked fine.

any suggestions on what might be wrong?

all I have been able to suggest is that he returns the items for me to check, and possibly replace if I find they do not work on my test track.

Things do get jiggled around in the post.  do the items have plug-and-play blanking plates which might have worked loose?

class 08 does not, class 108 does, so might explain one but not the other

108 could be the contacts from the PCB to the motor - these are just wipers and may have got rattled in the post. If the lights work, but the motor doesn't then that's a symptom.

I would not give any refunds until you get the item back - there's always the risk of someone trying to get a discount on stuff that there's actually nothing wrong with. Also make sure the person has not put DC locos on DCC - if they have then they could have done damage - damage you're definitely not responsible for!

Cheers,
Alan

What media did you use to sell them? Was it just two items? Has the buyer any feedback? It could well be that he is trying to manipulate a discount/refund from you, if it is eBay that you used - unfortunately they always support the buyer and guarantee buyers a refund even if the item has been used. This is a horrid situation for a seller.

Kind regards,

Jonathan

The original post says that it was a member, presumably of this forum.

I wouldn't like to think that one of our members is trying it on with another member.

a member on this forum, not through e-bay.

he had several other locos and DMUs which worked fine on arrival.
I'd have thought that if rough handling had caused the problem, then all would have been affected.

anyway, he's returning the two items to me, and I'll check them on my test track, and then if they still don't work I'll replace them.

I purchased a second hand class 101 farish DMU via Facebook market place. Was sold as fully working but ran intermittently when I got it.

I took it apart and refitted the PCB etc. was fine from then on. So I would assume this was another example of rough post travel.

So hopefully this is similar to what you have here and is easily resolved. Good it isn't through Ebay with a buyer unknown to yourself as they are always more hassle!
