Title: ANZAC Day 2020
Post by: Bealman on April 25, 2020, 07:43:02 AM
This important day on the Australian calendar was different this year, certainly. No parades through the capital cities, no veterans marching, not even any Two-Up.  :(

However, it was marked with televised dawn services from the capital cities, and made all the more sombre by the lack of crowds.

Citizens were encouraged to assemble on their driveways at dawn with flags and candles to show their support, and many did. It was a good show of support, and a great idea.

We weren't exactly vocal, but my wife was up at dawn and showed her support:

Lest we forget.

It was different alright; standing out in the street with a group of neighbours, all properly distanced, having our own Dawn Service in miniature.

The Sunday paper had asked for pictures during the last week to include in a multi-page wrap around today. We sent one in. I'm not Australian, but my wife is, and of course, her late father.

That's my father-in-law on the left. He lived in a small farming town in Northern NSW called Casino. That's where I was married.
