Title: Are any of these available from oxford???,
Post by: exmouthcraig on April 19, 2020, 10:16:01 PM
 :helpneededsign:

The hours spent away from the bench and work are still spent on research.

The topic of research at the moment is buses and fleet numbers, luckily my R&D dept (dad) have managed to acquire some ridiculous amounts of information relating to the fleet from 1955 - 1961 so that's good enough for us, this information goes as far as to give us the registration numbers and even the names that the buses were called  :o

It really is amazing what information people compiled and I am very glad that they did.

So I now need help finding this fleet of buses, hopefully afew will be available from oxford as I like their stuff and it's the right scale!!!!

I am after

AEC Regent
AEC Light Six
Leyland PD2
AEC Regal single decker
Guy Arab II                                ✔
Bedford OB                               ✔
AEC Reliance coach
Commer TS3 coach
Albion Nimbus single decker

(I know the Guy Arab and Bedford OB are available hence the ticks)
Livery is unimportant as they will be repainted but as many off this list as possible would be very nice

:thankyousign:

Take a look here at what's available in N from BT, Oxford and Farish. (remember Farish buses are under scale).

BT are no longer in production but are still available. But they don't do the buses you want.

Oxford do the Regent and the Regal (Four) - London's RT and RF classes. These names (also AEC Reliance)  refer to the chassis type which could have bodies from a variety of builders on it. So you could be better off looking for the body type such as Plaxton Panorama or Burlingham Seagull etc. As you are going to repaint you could use a model that had a different eg Leyland chassis. No one could tell the difference anyway.

John Ayrey's web site also has an amazing content

https://www.ayrey.co.uk/ (https://www.ayrey.co.uk/)

Don't forget Shapeways, P&D Marsh, N-Train, Osbornes. There must be other smaller cottage industries that do buses.

I'm surprised a Bristol Lodekka isn't on your list but maybe you have one already.

Thanks Norman, I'll have a route around, we do have over 300 photos as well so will start cross referencing those with what's available.

Bristols for one reason or another weren't there, I like the look of that Burlingham Seagull, hopefully one of those would be possible

Sounds like Craig is looking at a specific fleet (although he doesn't specifically name it...)
Obviously not a British Transport Commission (BTC) ex Tilling fleet though, as post-war supply of Bristol chassis was near enough exclusive to BTC Companies and any other would not have had Lodekkas.

The topic of research at the moment is buses and fleet numbers...

By strange coincidence, I think you're going to love the next issue of the NGS Journal!

The excellent Ken Jones of the West Midlands NGS group has put together a detailed article on which models (e.g., from Oxford, Farish, and Base) would be suitable for what geographical areas and during what sort of time periods. There's even a table for cross-checking areas against time periods and model manufacturers.

When I suggested the article to him, he thought this sort of summary an impossible task, but Ken really has come through, and the result will surely help a lot of modellers who want to go beyond just plonking down a bus that happens to look nice.

Issue 3/20 should be on member's doormats by the end of May.

Cheers, NeMo
