Title: Farish Fairburn tank in Caledonian livery
Post by: TalyllynJon on March 11, 2020, 10:49:59 PM
The limited edition Farish Fairburn tank in Caledonian livery seems to crop up secondhand from time to time. It is certainly a pretty model and reminds me of seeing it for real at Haverthwaite circa 1986. But how authentic is it? Obviously the actual Caledonian Railway ceased to exist decades before these engines were built. But, is the Farish model an accurate representation of the preserved loco as it appeared in the 1980s? I'm sure I remember it being more of a mid-blue than the pale, sky blue of the model. I haven't seen any photos of it that colour - most show it in a dark blue although a couple of later ones look closer to the mid-blue I think I remember.

Link here to a photo of 2085 in the paler blue as per the model.

Cheers

it's hard to tell from one photo, but that looks like the mid-blue I remember, rather than the pale blue of the Farish model. I know there is a huge irony about questioning the authenticity of such a blatantly inauthentic livery!

The livery was applied to the Loco when it ran in the Lake District.

It is NOT a Caledonian Railway loco.
