Title: Scotrail Inter7City Branded HST - Full sets
Post by: NGS-PO on February 24, 2020, 10:24:48 AM
KMS Railtec, of Inverurie are advertising Scotrail Inter7City full sets in 2mm.

This is the existing Dapol tooling, and so is a repaint rather than a retool to include electric doors.

Baseline is 1 four car set, with the option to add the fifth car.

Certainly a good starting point and I am will sell well. Hopefully in time coaches with sliding doors can be added even if a kit or swap parts option to a 3D print. Hopefully Railtec trasfers were be come available.

Why would you need Railtec Transfers for a RTR model...?

Hi
The 7City sets to come from Dapol have a cleverly printed door on the existing shell.   I am hoping a friend will make a 3D print shell that would allow a swap of underframe , seats, glazing and roof . so need to spray shell and add some railtech magic. To get the correct profile.

Clearly tooling costs for an injection moulding body quite a lot so the printed option gets the livery to market. I was just trying to have a bit of fun- having tried my own cut and shut to add the inset door - but the end falls off as very little plastic left to hold the end up - a bit like the real job it seems...

Sounds like the same as they are doing for Gaugemaster in GWR livery.

Being pedantic here, but I rather suspect those doors are pneumatic rather than electric...

Hi Gang,

I, too, have signed up for a set of these, with the additional coach. I'm fairly pragmatic about the door issue and will see how effective the painted effect is. The other option, of course is to have nothing. I certainly feel this will be more popular than the Gaugemaster offerings. Good luck to KMS.

Later,
Stu from EGDL.

I don't think they are pneumatic.  At least one article I have filed away states:

"The new external power-operated sliding doors will be manufactured by Vapor Stone Rail Systems, part of the Wabtec Group in Mexico and USA. Chris advises that the worldwide use of these doors with their simple electric worm drive and over-centre lock has proved to be highly reliable and that their fitment is relatively straightforward. To give train crews consistency of operation, the door controls will be similar to those on the class 170 DMUs."

That's not to say that the specification didn't change after the article was written, but I've not seen anything to that effect.  In addition, the ones I'm on regularly don't sound pneumatic.

But as always, I could be wrong.

Best

Scott.

I would be very interested to see how the painted effect for the sliding doors works on the Dapol Mk3 bodies.

One of the challenges I faced with the vinyls for these coaches in 4mm was the positioning of the door windows. I decided to recommend enlarging the door window opening by about 2mm in width to allow the vinyl to maintain the correct door position for the new design.

i have also ordered a full set , i did wonder if the other option would have been to just do a twin pack of power cars , then add debranded fgw livery coaches , which to be fair i could still do if the coaches dont look very convincing, the other thing is dapols track record with the hsts and liveries which has been mentioned on here many times , my last set the virgin east coast set needed the power cars large side vent panel painted black because it was still red , and i guess i will have to do the same to the rails special set and the forthcoming emr set released,( note livery photo shows red not black) its not a major thing, but even so.

i hope that i/ we  get to see a production painted mk3 , before a request for payment is forthcoming as i would like to see how convincing the paint job on the doors will be. i also have noted that the optional extra coach did say it was limited to 100 units but this seems to have been removed from the kms website and replaced with limited numbers , the hst sets were limited to 300 units , or thats what i was led to believe when i ordered in modelrail scotland in febuary this year.
