Title: Notifications
Post by: Graham on January 25, 2020, 01:48:17 AM
Earlier this week I stopped getting notifications on threads, normally if I have commented on a thread I get a notification whenever a new comment is made on a thread, this appears to have stopped.

Anyone else having this issue?

Hi Graham, I'm not having any issues - you say it started earlier in the week?

Are you logged on permanently? If so, try logging off and logging on again - sort of a reboot.

If it's still not working, we'll get Only Me to have a look at it.

Hi @Bealman (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=255) looking back at my emails I got a notification on Wednesday re Wrenton, nothing since then. I have rebooted the whole machine still nothing. Looks like I may not be the only one.
Cheers
Graham

Is anyone else having issues?

We had a major upgrade in the last few days, so this may correspond to that.

No problems here for me.

No problems for me, in fact, when I switched the laptop on after lunch, (late for me), there were about a dozen notifications waiting.

I'm receiving nothing as well.

When I checked this morning, I'd gotten about 18 overnight!  :hmmm:

nothing again overnight, and looking on the forum there are at least 4 that I would have received notifications about; Sturgeon, Wrenton, Marton Hindmarche, and this

Interesting. I can't understand why it should happen to some members but not others. In fact, I got notification of your post while I was looking at it on my phone!

Anyway, Tank is aware of the problem, so hopefully it'll be sorted soon.

Notifications are working for me, but my login had dropped out, so I had to log back in. Whether they would have worked if I hadn't needed to log in, I don't know.

That's interesting, too. Graham logged out and logged in again, but apparently he's still not getting notifications.  :hmmm:

Perhaps I should use the term baffling, rather than interesting!

If you scroll to the bottom of each of those posts does it say (Un)Notify? If not can you click Notify & then see if you get a notification?

I have tried that on this thread, will see what happens next time someone responds to this thread.

In that case the Admin need to look in the logs to initially see if one was sent to work out whether the issue is internal or external

I've got email alerts set on Wrenton and on this thread, among others, and still nothing.

Everything seems to be running as normal, and nothing in the email queue.  Very odd, but only a few complaints, so it could be a local issue.

I have just received an alert but no email notification

Stupid question, but I'm guessing you've checked your spam folders?

Might be an ISP problem - I'm on Virgin and I'm getting emails.

Check it every day and nothing there. I've also checked my list of blocked senders. Using BT Internet.

great pickup @Tank (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=2) I had been checking my spam folder on Outlook, but not in webmail, went onto my ISP site checked webmail and there were 40+ emails in the junk folder from the forum.

All is back to normal.

Rookie mistake I used to check this every day, but have got slack in my retirement.

Nor me. Just an alert for this thread.

I have changed the original BT email address in my profile to my Gmail one and lo and behold I have started to receive notifications again. I will leave it for a few days and then change it back to see what happens.

I've changed to a Yahoo address and still nothing. On my profile it says I'm not receiving any notifications but I can't see any way to change that.

On the Wrenton thread I changed my setting from email only to email and alerts. And I did get an alert this morning, but still no email. I've just changed the setting on this thread, too, so will await the next post here!

No email, no alert. Maybe it takes a while for the system to update settings - I'd only just changed the setting on this thread when I posted. Will try to find a photo for this evening!

It says the same on mine even though I am now receiving notifications again. I don't understand it.
I think the three of us must be the victims of a glitch in the forum software.

Same here. Alerts, no emails.

Changed back to my original BT email address today and notifications have stopped again. :(
During the change I did not receive a validation email and had to request a second one which came through OK.  ???
Tried changing between BT and Gmail several times and a second validation email was always required when changing to BT. ???
Currently back on Gmail.

Hi all,

All email notifications have been sent as normal from the forum and server.  I can only suggest contacting your email providers and making sure that we're on their White List.
