The Professor on the drumkit, that is.

Neil Peart, drummer and lyricist for Canadian rock band Rush, has died from brain cancer aged 67.
The musician, considered one of rock's greatest ever drummers, died on Tuesday in Santa Monica, California.
Not, IMO, one of the greatest but THE greatest.
So long Neil, thank you for the fantastic music over the years. In particular, I will never forget seeing and hearing your solo performances live. Outstanding is an understatement.
Here, here. The best. RIP
Sad news indeed he was such an incredibly talented musician and legendary drummer.
I was lucky enough to see Rush twice in concert - they were awesome...

Same here - Signals in '83 and Snakes & Arrows in '07.
Awesome is an understatement.

As a youth I saw them a couple of times in the 70s - Farewell to Kings and Hemispheres I think. I fell out of love with them shortly after that, but massive respect to Peart - great drummer.
I saw them in 1982 at Wembley ("Exit Stage Left") and Birmingham in 1988 ("Hold Your Fire").
I wish now I had gone to some more but life's other priorities intervened. "Time Stand Still" lyrics ever poignant..

I don't remember seeing them on Top of the Pops ?

March 1980 here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOrXi3IQtcA) it is
Oh dear, I am happy to say that I have no recollection of that whatsoever, however I do have joyous memories of playing "Spirit of Radio" very loud in my bedroom!
Definitely one of my drumming heroes. I would sometimes play along to Rush tracks (not very well but it was fun trying :D ).
Obviously I knew he had retired but this is sad.
My apologies to chrism for the thumbs down on his post. Reading it on my phone and hit the thumbs down button instead of the thumbs up button.. Thick finger syndrome. I know we are all entitled to our opinions but my opinion was not one of disdain for chrism or Neil Peart but just acknowledgement of the high regard in which Neil was held.

No probs mate, I hadn't noticed it TBH.
I think that if you hit the thumbs down again on the same post it cancels it - that is what happens with the other ratings on my PC, whether it is the same on a phone I know not.
I saw Rush at Wembley Arena in the early 80's, awesome! I wind my son up about that, from time to time, as he is a drummer too and NP was one of his idols. A sad day indeed, for both of us.
