Title: Chiltern Railways class 121
Post by: ohlavache on November 28, 2019, 08:06:29 AM
Hello.
When looking at pictures of Dapol's Chiltern Railways class 121, it seems that there is no exhaust pipe.
Is it compliant with the prototype?
And, if yes, where do the fumes go?
Thanks.

I remember this coming up before. The subject of the Dapol model had the exhaust rerouted through the guards compartment:

Many thanks for the picture.
Does that mean that some very small pipes should be added on the roof of the class 121 model to be prototypical ?

Sorry Crewearpley40 but the B H E Exhausts would be far too big as they are intended to go on the ends of the D M U kits the exhaust pipes on th Chiltern  121 are  so tiny that you only need something about a half a mm they are roughly the same size as the roof vents .If I knew how I could put a picture on here The guys who run the N gauge layout Banbury sent me some detailed photos of the one running on the layout and actually showed me at the Forum ESNG Show ,But I still havnt been brave enough to do it on my own Chiltern 121. You can get some good photos of off Google .
I have  put two photos on the Forum  Facebook page .and I'm getting some help on Sunday to put them on here .

They really are tiny, markedly smaller than the roof vents. Visible here:

Drilling a hole from the inside of the roof would probably suffice - the small amount of swarf around the hole would probably be an accurate representation!

I've embedded the picture that Bob put on Facebook. My assumption is that it'll only work for people in the Facebook group.

DarrwestLU6 and Crewearpley40 are visiting me on Sunday and will have another attempt at showing me how to put photos on the main Forum it is so easy to put them on The Forum Facebook page which automatically puts them on the normal Facebook page as well. They have shown me how to do it before as have several members but unless I do this sort of thing every day I just forget ,and you don't want the whole Forum filled up with my photos .
Thanks go to those that have put the detailed photo of the exhausts on here and I hope that has helped the original member who asked about them .
