Title: Need some very small black numbers (030)
Post by: Skyline2uk on October 10, 2019, 12:28:50 PM
Hello all

I am on a bit of a drive to complete some ongoing projects at the moment. One of these is the re-numbering (my first) of Farish's 33025 to sister loco 33030.

I have done the large white body side number, but got a bit stuck on the front repeaters, "030" (location highlighted below).

I can't seem to find black numbers small enough.

Fox have some "special" DB ones that are .65mm high, but have tried those and they are still too big.

I need something like 0.5mm or maybe even 0.4mm

Microtrains in the US may do some small enough,  but it's going to be expensive once minimum order and shipping are included.

In theory (barring mistakes) I need 4x "0"s and 2x "3"s.

Would anybody be able to help?

Have you seen if the TOPS panel sheets that Fox do have numbers of the correct size? If the N Gauge ones don't then the 4mm range might have something you can use.

Do they have black numbers? I will have a look.

@crewearpley40 (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=3894) alas railtec don't appear to go that small, will have another look at Fox

Fox F2730 has numbering 0.65mm high
F2143 may be slightly smaller.

Thanks Steven

They look interesting, I have dropped a message to Fox to see if they can tell me how tall those numbers are.

Hmmm, might have to revisit a few of my resprays now - I'd given up trying to find numbers for the front of a few locos and just got rid of them - if they're missing their not the wrong number  :smiley-laughing:

**Update**

Well I am quite chuffed now.

Before I placed an order with Railtec decided, on the off chance, to see just how small my printer could print...

...I had some decal paper for ink jets....

...long story short....

Not perfect, but without the glass.... :bounce:

Looking good.

Have you considered replacing the printed headlamp? "Ratio 249 headlamps" are all that's needed and make a big difference.

A Jiffy bag with these very bits arrived on Saturday morning (great minds think alike  :D).

I have enough to do both my DRS "Minimodal" 33s.

But

I am in a little quandary.

Obviously I have now modified one of the locos to become 33030, thus the collectors club loco is no longer "as new", so I don't mind glueing new bits on. However, my other one (33025) is still "as new", so do I add the lights to this one?

Part of me says yes to match it's sister, part of me says no....
