WHAT AN ENDING :claphappy:
In a thrilling, nailbiting and, at one point, positively bizarre final England took the honours against New Zealand. I have never seen a drawn match that has gone to a 'Super Over' before (a bit like extra time in football). It's great England won but a shame anyone had to lose in such a tight match.
I'm sure Kiwi cricket fans around the world are gutted but hold your heads high. You made this match what it was :beers:
A classic. Tense at the end and neither deserved to lose. Congratulations england
Superbly led by our Irish captain, with our Kiwi holding the innings together at the end and our West Indian bowler keeping them to 15 in the super over ;)
Fantastic game though and eventually worked out why they had to score 16 to win even though we lost more wickets.
Yes, Great entertainment. :beers:
Wow. Just fantastic. Huge cheer went up in the office at the final ball was played out.
Like many, I suspect, I had never heard of, let alone watched, a super over before.
But it was thrilling, amazing, exciting... draining!
Cheers
Ben A.
A Champagne Superover........I'll get me cost :D
Um - being a long time since I've been to Lord's, and not generally up to speed on the World Cup, when I opened the online newspaper today and saw that England had won, 241 all out vs New Zealand's 241-8 I thought it must have reading been a typical Grauniad typo.
What's the Super Over and the number of boundaries got to do with it?
I don't have a dog in this fight, but doesn't the scoreboard tell you who won?
I don't want to be contrary here, but if you're the rules committee, doesn't the fewer number of wickets lost when the runs are tied seem the simplest resolution?
Congrats to the English cricket team for a hard fought win.
Commiserations to the New Zealand team once again.
At least two of the three finals games were close and exciting. Australia seems to have left its worst effort for last.

How many Maoris were in the New Zealand team though ;)

Maybe, but the super over creates more drama, I've never seen one drawn before though, which is why they went onto number of boundries for the decider.

True. In football (soccer) if there's a draw then no extra time. Declare the winner on how many players are left on the field due to sendings off or the number of corners earned. Those around the world who don't like the amount of TV time given over to football would very much appreciate it.
The England team would love it as there would be no penalty shoot outs :D
I'm a big cricket fan but the end of the final clashed with a whisky tasting event in Bath.
The tasting, which is normally very reserved, descended into farce with 16 of us crowded around my phone watching the final over plus the super over on Sky.
The cheer that went up at the end was unbelievable.
All great stuff.

Watched a replay in a great pub in Randwick last night, and it's on again in Randwick bowling club this morning!
Congratulations george on the birth of your grand daughter. Warm wishes fron us all
