Title: Farish coupling overhang
Post by: Blade Fisher on July 10, 2019, 01:25:29 PM
Hi,

Can anyone advise the approximate overhang of the couplers on GF coaches/ diesel locomotives above the length of the individual vehicle?  In the absence of a coach/loco I am assuming 5mm at each end.

Thanks.

Hi, and welcome to the forum
You may find some variation but I've just measured a Farish class 42 and the coupling end is 8mm over the buffer beam.

What are you actually wanting to answer? 5mm should cover you to the end of a coupler (I just checked a mk1 @3mm beyond the buffers, a 66 @ 1.5mm beyond the buffers and a 60 @2mm), but if you want to know about coupled length for a rake it'll be less than that because of the overlap between vehicles.

If you're trying to calculate lengths then 5mm should give you wiggle room.

Thanks guys.  The answer is platform length.
