Title: DB Museum Koblenz Sommerfest 2019
Post by: ntpntpntp on June 23, 2019, 02:12:24 PM
Something that might interest the continental modellers among us?    The yearly event has been on this weekend.   Earlier in the year I was contemplating popping over for a visit but in the end never quite managed to get around to sorting anything out.

Here are some video highlights from yesterday.

Very useful source of ideas for the loco depot I'm currently working on, which will probably feature a steam open day  :D

@Globibahn (https://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=7020)  there's a 110 in there!

This is a great vid Nick! Yes the BR110 looks fantastic.

The BR218 is pretty spectacular - they have quite brutal looks I always think (like an English Electric Lightning)!

It's a pity all the N Gauge BR103s look so odd, would love to have one on the layout. Apparently the one that was in the Fleischmann Intercity pack a few years back looks pretty ok. Won't have LED headlights or close coupling though.

Cheers
Matt

Look odd in what way?     Arnold, Minitrix, and Fleischman have all made models of the 103, they look fine to me except for the early 1960s Minitrix model which has bogie mounted buffers like many of their early models (and I think I read somewhere it has 2 motors?)

It's quite a hot topic on German forums: when viewed side-on, the newer Mintirix and Fleischmann models just have way too big a gap under the chin, due to the close coupler mount. People say it makes them look a bit like a chicken, I have to say I see what they mean  :D

I've only ever seen photos though, never seen a model up close.

Ah, right. does look carp in that photo :-)   Unusual angle to be looking at a model from perhaps, and against a light background it does show up the gap!

Here are (left to right) my older Fleischmann, Minitrix and Arnold 103s.   The Mx and Ar cetainly have skirts/ploughs represented, the Fl has big coupling pockets to fill the gap anyway.

First, thank you for the link to the video – I wonder how many of the locomotives could be found in N to recreate the open day. I have only watched the first half now but found quite a few already: Minitrix Adler, Arnold E41 001 in dark blue, Fleischmann or Arrnold E10 1239 in Rheingold blue/beige, Minitrix 111 001-4 in ocean blue/ivory ... :hmmm:

This Fleischmann version (103 155 which in reality never received a red frame) correctly has no front skirts; the older versions with black frames (103 118, 103 142) do have skirts.
But these "short" 103s don't have a close-coupling mechanism, so they don't have the problem of the "naked" front.
Close-coupling is only present on the newer constructions – the prototypes (E03/103.0) and the "long" bodies (103 216–245).

That would be quite a scene to recreate - would take quite a large collection - I'm nowhere near  :D!

It does look a fantastic event.

Must admit I was mentally ticking them off  as they went past  :D   Advanced Train Lab would be a nice unit (ex ICE TD).  I was eyeing up those black and white mixed single/double deck units going past in the background, too.

Not something which seems an issue (to me at least) from normal viewing angles:

Thank you! I agree, I think it's just the way they've photographed it!

Cheers

Hi Nick,

Thanks in advance for the vids. I'll watch them later, at my leisure with a few glasses of wine.

Cheers weave  :beers:
