Title: Late Victorian Early Edwardian Farm Worker Figures
Post by: Artisan on February 21, 2019, 10:33:25 AM
Could anyone recommend a manufacturer of farm worker figures from around 1900? In fact they do not have to be farm workers. Any workers for the period would be okay as I would adapt or paint to suit my needs.

The late great P.D. Hancock used to butcher and add pieces to existing commercial figures, but of course he was working in 4mm scale a bit different in N, methinks.

I don't know of any such figures in N, but would be interested to hear if any exist.

These might do the job. See pack ref A25p. Further down the page there are also some gardeners which would fit the bill, too.

Hello Joe,

Thanks. I have purchased from him before but the figures were Edwardian ladies and gentlemen in fine clothing. When I last asked him about worker figures he said he could only offer male figures from the Edwardian collections that could be adapted. Is he now producing worker figures? If so I will get in contact with him.

Sorry Greg I don't know if Andy is now doing workman figures.

I haven't contacted him since 3 years ago.

Okay Joe. No problem. I must agree with you the Edwardian figures he has produced are superb. He tells me he is about to produce figures of the crew of the Titanic. An interesting addition to the layout! I will buy some to stand on my platforms.

Modelu have a small range of impressive figures, including some farm workers, and some more general 'worker' types:

You and a few friends can always dress up and get scanned by them.

Yes, a great but probably expensive way of putting your personal stamp on a layout.

I saw a lady do just that in a recent RM. She got dressed up in fifties gear and there she is, standing on the platform of the layout.

I thought that was pretty cool!

Nothing wrong with pub teams!

I lived in a village which held an annual "Pub v Club" match for charity in the days when last orders was at 2.00 on Sunday.  Play started at 2.30 and I recall one particular incident. Club were batting and Jim[no blushes spared that was his real name] was fielding at mid off. He had a pint glass by his right foot and his cigarettes and lighter by his right. Came the inevitable off drive and Jim sprang into action. In a swift two handed movement he stooped and grabbed both beer and fags as he watched the ball to the boundary.

Langley figures ar actually pretty good, just seriously let down cos they are really badly painted for the website.
