Title: JMRI Backup or PC transfer
Post by: GWR-Kris on March 06, 2012, 11:27:32 AM
With regards to JMRI can I install the software on one PC, then when my main layout is completed transfrer the files to a different PC including the decoders, point controls etc. As im currently constructing a small inhouse layout on a table to use DCC. then i plan to transfer it to the shed when its finsihed later this year.

As i dont want to have to go through doing all the decoders etc then have to redo them.

Yes. You can move all the JMRI data files you have across.

For the decoder settings/rosters

http://jmri.sourceforge.net/help/en/html/apps/DecoderPro/Roster.shtml (http://jmri.sourceforge.net/help/en/html/apps/DecoderPro/Roster.shtml)

See "Import" and "Export"

Sorry not in your area, but I will be at Ally Pally this weekend or DEMU Showcase in June.

I would recommend having a quick look at the JMRI intros, FAQs and manual. Just be aware that JMRI is more than just one tool - essentially the two main bits are DecoderPro and PanelPro.

DecoderPro: http://jmri.org/help/en/html/apps/DecoderPro/Tour.shtml (http://jmri.org/help/en/html/apps/DecoderPro/Tour.shtml)
JMRI full manual: http://jmri.org/help/en/manual/JMRI_2-14_manual/index.shtml (http://jmri.org/help/en/manual/JMRI_2-14_manual/index.shtml)

Don't be put off by how much there is, you only need to use relatively small amounts of functions initially.

Oh and I don't consider myself any form of expert!
