Title: Great Eastern Electrics in N - Now a reality...
Post by: Adam1701D on January 09, 2019, 09:58:32 PM
I posted this on the Electra FB page earlier but after seeing the debate about "The State of N Gauge", I thought I'd all my two'penneth worth about actually how damn good things are for modern modellers, particularly those of is who like the tin snails :-)

Are we seeing a resurgence of Overhead AC layouts in N Gauge? Since Bob at N-Train released his 304/5/8 ends, I've had a rush of orders for these units, which is great news. I have been trying to encourage AC units in N, as there were none on the scene at all when I started.

It occurs to me that Modern Era Great Eastern is now more than possible in N

Class 302 Electra / N Train End
Class 305 Electra / N Train End
Class 307 Electra / N Train End
Class 308 Electra / N Train End
Class 309 Electra...Need ends :-)
Class 310 Electra / N Train End
Class 312 Electra / N Train End
Class 315 Electra / N Train Kit
Class 317 Electra / N Train Kit on the way
Class 321 RevolutioN
Class 322 RevolutioN
Class 325 Electra / N Train Kit
Class 360 Electra / Farish

Of course, there are plenty of DMUs, Sprinters, 37s, 47s and 86s RTR along with Internodals and Mk2 coaches galore.

I am feeling inspired to sort myself out some NSE overlays soon.

We could do with some Class 303/311 ends and sides :)

Hi

If doing them could the 123 / 124 Transpennine ends be included?

Cheers

Paul

I Know the "standard" way to power the AC EMUs is to chop up a 150 / 170 chassis, but has anybody had much luck with other ways of motorising, and if so, what are you using?
Just don't much fancy chopping up a decent working DMU, unless I can I find one cheap.

Tomytec TM-17 for 20m units but the bogie wheelbase is not ideal, being only 16mm

I had been telling people the TM-18, which has a shorter bogie wheelbase, because it was the only one that seemed to be available. You also have to watch the wheel sizes on the Japanese chassis as some of them have smaller wheels.

Thanks bob! Once again I am glad for your wisdom in such matters!
